Default Warning lights and rally gauges

I have a 65 GTO with repop rally gauges. I think there are also some warning lights in my dash that need to be set up. First I am pretty sure the far left pod has a red warning light for the voltage, is that right?

Also, it looks like there is a red lens under the speedometer - does that do anything?

Default The light in the first circle opening labeled as "battery"

The light in the first circle opening labeled as "battery" is your alternator charge/ no-charge warning lamp. Standard on any A body Pontiac car from 64 & up.

The other one is a brake warning lamp, in 64 thru 66 that light; to actually work was an extra cost option, it became standard as fully working on any A body Pontiac starting in 1967.

In 64-66 it was to let you know that your cable parking brakes were on.

in 1964 up-to 66 There were two versions of that lamp, one in a chrome bezel located in the painted metal underneath the key switch and the one you have which is in a small "window" in the bottom of the speedometer circle. (The one in the speedometer came in some non-rally gauge cars if you ordered it on the built sheet. Otherwise that could be dealer installed. With rally gauges the red words are there except yours is missing the socket & switch. That used to come as a little add-on accessory kit sold at the dealership.

Inside of the kit box you would find:
An additional jumper wire harness w/socket (not made as part of the dash harness) as well as a metal spring loaded switch mounted on the forward frame edge of your foot operated cable parking brake.

Those kits are pretty rare and very sought after today as most of those cars (even the rally gauge cars) came with the light that did not work. The dealerships used to have a display of these small add on kits in the waiting room. So it was a bit of a boost to the service department to sell you one of these lamp kits when you brought your car in for it's first or second oil change.

Default Eme brake warning lamp switch

The switch is just a normal dome lamp switch (it's the one on the left); photo below. The bracket, as far as I am aware, is not something that is available as a new reproduction part.

You would have to fab up one of those on your own.

It could be done with a bench grinder, some simple hand tools, a vice and a drill.

Steve, this is what I did:

I had Peter rebuild my speedo prior to putting it back together.

The switch in the kit picture looks to be the same as a 67 factory installed switch. i think I have one if you are interested.

Thanks everyone - this was really useful info. I'm not sure exactly what I am going to do yet but at least I know what those lenses are for!
