Trunk latch fitment question
Quick question guys regarding the part of the latch assembly that is spot welded inside the trunk against the tail panel.
It looks like a little box, that's held in place by a larger sheetmetal box that's welded in place. On mine the inner part is off to one side more than thr other. The body shop swears this is incorrect, and wants to cut it off and make it perfect. Looking at a few pics of other cars, it looks like this assembly is all over the place, and very rarely is it centered. I'm thinking it's fine, and I'm guessing it probably was designed to give GM a little wiggle room when assembling the cars? The trunk lid fit good and closed smoothly, so I'm hesitant to let them touch it. What does yours look like? Should I just leave it alone?

Exactly. Assuming that your lid latches in the trunk opening correctly, moving it would be a waste of labor and mean welding up several holes caused by drilling out the welds. Plus, the fragile and rust prone channel that the rubber seal sits in would be compromised. |
