70 Lemans to GTO front end conversion question

I have a 70 LeMans that somebody added GTO front clip to. They kept the LeMans radiator support which is different from GTO. Every time I need to get to horns, grilles, etc I have to remove valance and go in from underneath. Question is...can I cut out the highlighted metal and put in GTO plastic filler piece to make it look more like GTO, or does this metal do something structurally for the endura
