Default All black muscle car wheels?

Im kicking around the idea of buying new wheels because I want to go to an 8 or 9" wide wheel in the back to make drag radial selection easier.

I want an all black wheel to compliment my color scheme. There are tons of affordable selections that have black centers with a machined lip. Not exactly what i want. Im sort of up in the air on 15 vs 17. I would take either.

The only one I found that is really all black is this one by Boyd

http://boydcoddingtonwheels.com/whee...n-junkyard-dog

A bit higher than I want to spend though. Is there one in the American racing type price range someone can think of?

I do sorta like these and they are cheap, but still not all black

Im also considering buying buying a set of Weld type pro star wheels which are abundant on craigslist and plasti dipping them black. I did that on my C6 wheels with good results. I would prefer skinnier spokes though as opposed to the traditional Welds.

I went with the classic torqthrust ii in satin black from American Racing's custom shop.

These have held up incredibly well and the price is decent. Not the cheapest, but not anywhere near the most expensive. They are within your budget if you are looking at Weld's.

EDIT: Sorry I saw you were looking at welds and didn't comprehend the last sentence that you were looking at weld type wheels in used format.

I don't know exactly what your budget is, but my setup spec'd and shipped was right at $2000.00 which does include the tires, mounting and balancing. You'll likely find that those boyd wheels will likely fall in that same territory with tires and mounting.

That looks outstanding and is the general look im going for. Ill look into the custom shop. Ill admit that is a little more than I had intended. But I guess with tires its not that much more. With something like those vision wheels I think I would be something like 400 into the wheels and then between 400 and 600 on tires depending on if I stick with 15s and reuse my almost new front tires.

And yes I am considering trying to find used tires/wheels which pop up now and again. In a perfect world I could find a set with decent tires, keep the fronts, ditch the backs for drag radials and paint them dip them black myself.

Default Rallye II style

Either 17" or 18" Year One or US Mags that are a replica of the Rallye II would be cool and you can easily powdercoat them all black.

~$225 a wheel plus powdercoating --- or just plastidip them all black.

American racing basically makes that.

https://www.carid.com/american-racin...-86749922.html

It’s affordable, but from what I’ve seen they just don’t look that good. That said, it’s hard to find pictures of them on cars. I feel like every rally two I’ve ever seen in non standard paint looks wrong.

I like the plain black wheel. Wheel Vintiques Series 62. I used centering hub rings with mine.. You can also get them chromed, there called Series 64.

Not from Wheel Vintiques but custom built to my specs by a shop I won’t name or recommend.

Would you mind divulging the width and offset of that back wheel? That really is the exact look I want for my 64, save for I may try the dog dishes on it. I love the look of a stock style wheel that is clearly not stock depth on certain cars.

Unless you decide to narrow the rear end my rear wheel dimensions won’t match up to your car, the Ford 9” rear was narrowed somewhere close to 3-1/2” and the wheel backspace is right around 3-1/4” on the 8” rear wheels.

The deep dish look is nice but comes with a price.

This way you can choose any wheel style you like. Matte black powder coat is pretty nice looking when applied correctly

Yeah, I don't know how expensive it is to have someone do 4 wheels. Doing a wheel yourself would require a pretty big oven for the powdercoat I would think.

And thanks for the reply B-man. The galaxie is a pain with rear wheels all the way around. To put in big tires people often have to deflate them and then re-air them in place. It has 225/70R14s on it now and they are a nightmare to get in. Mostly because the springs are junk. I actually think a larger diameter rim would eliminate some of that issue though. Either the tire hits the quarter or the rim hits the drum, but if the opening of the wheel was a 15 instead of a 14, you have more room to navigate the drum

The 64 GTO is perfect!!

I am doing the same thing that B man did to my 69 el Camino, narrowing a rear end and using deep dish wheels. Thank you for sharing your GTOs information!!

The issue with Wheel Vintiques is having to buy hub centering rings. I had a set made from aluminum for the Wheel Vintiques wheels and the GM A body hub..

I used to lift one side at a time with the other wheel on the ground.

Ill try that.

In other news, I was planning on buying a set of wheels using some excess money from a small land sale, but it fell through. So I was willing to pay the money for the custom shop job. Now not so much, I still might just buy a set of the cheapest Rockets, or American Racings with an eye towards powder coating them later. Or maybe plasti dipping them with an eye towards power coating later.

Im also still up in the air on drag radials for the 17s or just putting a set of slicks on my 15s.

I always wanted to try sanding all the lettering off the sidewalls of the tires so they look like tires from the sixties... HAMB has a few threads on this subject.. I think Diamond Back does this.. https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/...tering.848043/
