1965 GTO
Hi-
I'm assisting my wife and her sister in selling their fathers fully restored 1965 GTO. Here is most of what we know about the car. Please email me if you have any questions or would like to see it in person. This is not a matching numbers car; however, it is a GTO with PHS documentation. Frame off restoration, commissioned in August 1997 and completed in October 2000, this car was built by Mr. Herman Seymour of HS Classics, in Coppell, TX. He specialized in building GTOs and in the photos you will find the nameplate (mounted under the hood). I have the original bill of sale/ contract to complete restoration. You will be able to see most of the options in the photos, below are the details of the bill of sale: Frame off restoration (I have non-digital photos of the frame in the shop) Drive Train: 389 Tri-Power Engine was completely rebuilt, using original GTO heads and a replacement 389 block. A restored, original 1965 tri-power intake was used. All engine components, such as water pump, alternator, etc are rebuilt original or new. Engine compartment restored to stock GTO original appearance. Transmission is a reconditioned Muncie 4-speed with new clutch & pressure plate Rear end - original 323 posi-track Power steering, power brakes Chassis: Frame was stripped to bare metal and painted with all new front end using new parts. New body busings and new brake parts. Wheels are stcok GTO steel wheels using orignial 1965 wire spinner hub caps. Interior: New headliner, door panels, carpet & seat covers from "PUI" Interiors in orignial Parchment color. New arm rests (front and rear) new dome lamp and all window crank and door handles original (good - used condition). Exterior: Car was stripped and painted in 1965 Nightwatch Blue using PPG Deltron base coat clear coat paint. Paint is high quality driver. All emblems are correct 1965 GTO original. Front and rear bumper rechromed. All chrome and stainless trim is used original and subject to small flaws. Options to base GTO: A/C (cold!) Four-speed console in good, used condition Wood sport steering wheel (used 1969 wheel & 1965 horn button) Ralley gauges Original distributor modified to eletronic ignition AM/FM radio conversion package Power antenna on right hand fender Handling package Reproductive exhaust splitter plus hangar Front disk brake conversion Front seat belts The engine was reset to 0 in 2000. There are less than 7,000 miles on the car. It has been garage kept since 2000. Other items that we have noted: Good tires Very clean interior with no rips tears or worn areas No apparent engine leaks Recent Oil change (<300 miles ago) Carburetors adjusted (winter 2010) New Clutch (winter 2010) The only non-original item is the 8-disc cd changer - it's mounted in the truck with a remote in the glove compartment. Everything is working perfectly with the exception of the power antenna - which was working a few months ago - it may be a fuse. There are a few small chips in the paint, mostly around the doors, quarter panel, and the front grill. I've tried my best to these imperfections in the photos. Also, according to the mechanic who replaced the clutch this winter, this car does not have the original "U" joint on the drive shaft. It seems to be fine, it's just not the right year "U" joint. Here is a link to the photos of the car - there are 97 and I tried to capture the beauty of this vehicle, while also showing that there are a few small imperfections: http://s59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...965%20GTO/ This was car built to drive - the specifications are intended for a daily driver. $34,000 asking price Located in Fayetteville, AR The car is running great - it purrs! Thank you. Please send me an email if you would like more information. More photos here - http://s59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...ne/1965%20GTO/ We've tried to be as honest as possible as to what we know about this vehicle. Please do NOT send spam or junk email. Only contact me if you are interested in the car. Last edited by motobone; 01-09-2012 at 09:44 PM. Reason: location |

Very nice; looks like a nice, honest, comprehensive write up; good luck with the sale.
Relative to the power antenna: trying actuating the switch and giving the base of the antenna a few "love taps" with a hammer or hammer handle. Sometimes they get a stuck magnet and will work after a little percussive therapy. If it works then that will at least tell you it's not a fuse or faulty wiring. K

Thanks for the kind comments and emails. I will look into the antenna issue.
Also, we're open for suggestions on pricing and the car in general. I believe the car was an original 389, but it did not come with the factory tri-power carburetors or 4 speed. However, it was originally sold with the factory air conditioning. The color is not original either. This car was built for my father-in-law to replace his 1965 Goat that was totaled in the early seventies. It was built to drive and enjoy and after driving this car for a few hundred miles, I see the reason why these cars are so popular. This car turns heads everywhere and I've never received so many "thumbs-up" as I have in the past year. Simply amazing... I'll try to get it out over the next few days and post some new photos. Maybe even a video or two with a walk around and the sounds of this smooth 389. Thanks- |
