Default 1971 T/A Hood Latch Finish, Heat Riser Chimney Hose and Master Brake Cylinder Finish

Hi,

A few questions:

See pics

1. What is the correct factory finish for the hood latch catch?

2. Who sells the closest to factory correct hose that connects to the Heat Riser Chimney?

3. What is the factory correct finish / color for the Master Brake Cylinder and who sells it?

Thanks!

Part of latch facing you was black Phosphate, the lock mechanism ( pointed part off to right that moves) was Gold anodized.
"Norwood" is our resident expert, and has rebuild many of these latches.
1971 cars had cheap Alkalyd black paint . This was put on at sub assy just to keep flash rust off during transport to final assembly.

Might be the photo angle, the hood pop wire looks a bit out of shape. Random question, why was the RH end of it blue, not sure if all years.

Thank you FB.

Do you have any pics to share?

Is the black phosphate finish the same as the bolts holding it in place?

I have the same question on the heat riser chimney hose. Is the correct color black coated, or silver? I’ve heard either could be correct?

Not sure anyone sells anything like original hose? What you show looks really close.

What you're calling the "Heat Riser Chimney Hose" should be black. They are available from Ames, part #FN406RB and are called a "Pre-Heater shroud to air cleaner duct."

As for the master cylinder, I believe it should be black. However, it would not surprise me if others opined that it should be gray.

Makes sense that they don't save their pics with names related to their part number.

I found the "Pre-Heater shroud to air cleaner duct" and the other duct have different part numbers. Were they the same material and just a different length or different materials. See attached.

Usually different lengths with a certain amount of flex built-in, but not a lot. The parts manuals listed a part number for nearly every application. Later they only had a couple but also the cut-to-length stock that many called for, and probably had a set length for each instead.
It seems suppliers changed over the years, possibly had a few at same time, going from the grey stock to a more glossy black in later years, as well as the grey papery coating. Even a bright silver foil coating appeared but have only seen it in GM service parts, always hard to know what is original in low mileage cars, even when they claim as much.
