Any pictures of them? Wavy washers are still available from industry supply houses ... might be able to find the same ones.
I imagine they were great for maintaining pressure once the cork gaskets compressed with time. |

I suspect that they realized that without the soft paint on the valve cover to bond the bolt they’d tend to loosen against the hard chrome surface.
