Yeah, we didn't need any bug spray (that I remember, anyway), but lawn chairs and blankets, definitely!

Before I moved from Indiana my wife and daughter and I hit the Huntington Twin Drive In for every movie we wanted to see in the summer. Great concessions, always a double feature and the most carefree and awesome way to spend an evening. It's been about 5 years and I miss it, my daughter talks about it all the time. They even played the cool old drive in commercials before the feature.

The Blue Fox might still be open on Whidbey Island just south of Oak Harbor, Washington. That is the only one I know of in all of western Washington? There used to be a 20 or more back in the 70s into the early/mid 80s. Then they started closing down for all kinds of stupid stuff. Car lots, college parking lots, storage lots, shopping centers? Almost every town had one, bigger cities had 2 or 3. One of these was located right by the freeway. I clearly remember driving by when they were showing Fast Times at Ridgemont High, yes when the pool clip was showing.

It’s become common place here, for Townships to have movie nights in the parks usually at ball fields, or community parks. Not quite the same, you bring your blankets or chairs and your own snacks, and the movies are free. These are becoming very popular.

Actually, the two I mentioned in my other post are also in Western Washington.
The Wheel-Inn Motor Movie is near Port Townsend, not far from the airport.
The other theatre is The Rodeo Drive-In, which is on the Belfair Highway, about half way between Belfair and Gorst.
It is the Wheel-Inn that uses the projector that used to be for The Big Bear Drive-In out in Poulsbo (which closed about 25 years ago).
The Rodeo still holds their flea market on the weekends in the spring and summer months.
I picked up a nice old Stanley plane there.
When I was in high school we had The Big Bear out in Poulsbo, The Kitsap Lake Drive-in in Bremerton and The Rodeo out in Belfair.
The Kitsap Lake had the best neon sign. The big indian chief shooting his bow and arrow over the marquee. A work of art, to say the least.
I understand that sign now hangs in some museum somewhere around here.
I think the Sno-King, over in King County, was the biggest. They had like 5 or 6 screens. Huge!
The Rodeo still has 3.
Next time I'm out on Whidbey (or as my mom calls it, "Wee-Bee" ), I'll have to see if The Blue Fox is still showing movies..
I read a few years ago that there are only 5 drive-in's left in Washington now. =(

Had one in my small town we used to go to. My parents used to take us to them as a "treat." I remember John Wayne movies like the Green Berets. We had a movie house as well.

Our drive-in used to run adult films on the screen facing the road ( it had two screens). Remember sneaking 2 buddies in the trunk of my '56 Pontiac to lower the costs of admission which we split. I'd have the top back of the rear seat loose and once inside, pull the seat down and my friends would crawl out and we would all watch the porn show.

Drive-in got torn down and the old movie house burned up. Don't live there anymore so not sure what they have now.

We still have 5 going out here.
The closest one is just a few miles away.
Last time I was there, the projectionist left the door open and walked out to do.....something.
I got hungry, so I went to the snack bar and ended up standing there and watched the film loop around......it was cooler than the movie! =D

Had many in NJ, but all gone to developers now. Here in NC there's a drive-in 20 mins from me, right up US1, the Raleigh Road Theater. They ran American Graffiti a few months back but the weather didn't cooperate. ARGH Still trying to get a bunch of guys to go with our cars.
