Well, this doesn't have anything to do with shill bidding. I see this often and wondered the same. I've upped my bids before and that doesn't happen. Likewise, I'd like to know how a bidder can hit reserve at the last second even if there are no bidders.

A bidder can't bid against himself, unless he hits reserve, and then it goes up.

Bidder is trying/hoping to trip the reserve.
Evidently the reserve is above his genuine expectations.

The current amount won't increase with his bids unless he were to hit the reserve,
then it would go to whatever amount satisfies the reserve.

Say he bid 200,000 , and reserve was 95,000 , it would go to 95,000.
Even if no one were bidding against him.

Thrill seekers will sometimes pull that just to find out the reserve.
Then cancel /retract their bid.

I used to use a program that would auto bid at a predetermined time that you can set. I would set it for 3 seconds before bidding ended. I don’t buy much anymore so don’t do that now. It did work out well most of the time though!

$43,100.00. No sale. We’ll see if he realists it.

Geeteeohguy was closest to the market. He said high 30's and was close. Based on the very low price the GeetoTiger car brought, 43K doesn't surprise me at all. 43K seems to be about the right money for that car in today's market.

Not reading through all of this, but earlier it was noted that an unrestored original would easily be worth the price, but not an unrestored vintage race car.

Doesn't having a vintage race history increase value?

Maybe this is apples to oranges, but I would think a Shelby Cobra that was documented to have competed in LeMans would be worth considerably more than a street cobra. Or a 68 Z28 that was one of the trans am winners would be worth more than any other 68 Z/28. Am I wrong there?

Sure. If Arnie Beswick's name was attached to it. I would venture to say that if Don Gay's name was attached to it, it would not do big money.

Just because it is a "history car" doesn't mean it has significant or meaningful history. Every Pontiac person and a lot of drag racers know who Arnie Beswick is. Not many in that grouping know who Don Gay is and very few know about Limelighter. Hell, I don't even know who raced Limelighter and I've been racing almost my whole life. This car was just a Division 5 racer and anyone who would know it would be in the Division 5 territory, which is where the biggest money should be for this car.

Then perhaps you should dig deep and buy it.

Your number is over double of what this did and it had nearly 200 grand into it.

I would pay more for a Don Gay car for sure. I also have always liked that two door Tempest wagon but I wouldn’t spend a ton of money on it.
Everyone is different. If we weren’t, we’d all drive a Prius! 😱

I get it, a Mickey Thompson owned car would be worth more. But as much as people like “patina” survivor paint......I mean vintage race paint is 5 times cooler.

My bid was not high enough. Talked to him, nice guy. Maybe he will call, knows what I will pay. Not a great time to sell or buy a collector car. The automatic is such a downer, but I love the car.

Hey, I would love to race a stick but I like to win so the automatic is where its at. I'm sure that is why this car got one. Big difference between "show" and "go".

Its great that someone loves that car, that's what it needs to find.

I completely respect what the car and driver did , 100%
Really like 67's , and own 1
But that car is Ugly

It needed a famous name tied to it , or a catchy nick-name and eye grabber graphics,
or a really sweet factory color combo - to pull more dollars.
Or have been a genuine XS car
Can't change any of that , and the bid goes on

World Record Holder in 1968 is a Big Deal
Really Big for a D-Port Pontiac
That record may not have stood for very long - but even if it was only for 5 minutes - it still broke a previous record ET for that class.
Had to have been a spectacular and proud day for the owner.
Chevy had their SolidLifter /RectanglePort engines in full swing by then, and Hemi's were in full swing too.

Anybody can drive an automatic. If I get it, a 4 speed goes back, and I will still race it.

I was interested in the car as much today as I was when I looked at it 30 years ago. But after John showed an interest I knew he could do it justice, so I backed out. I hope he calls you back to sell it to you John. Keep us updated.

Thanks! I personally saw the GeetoTiger and could not believe it went for so little. It was a NICE car done right. The Jolly Green Giant II sold recently for peanuts as well....around 30k or less. Totally cool stick race '65 GTO ragtop. Cost way more to build. Knowing more history on this Linden Green '67 adds some value, but the market is flat right now. I too love the car.....and think it's beautiful. What a race car SHOULD look like. Weld wheels, large tubs, and dumped front ends bore me to death. Not into the 1980's-'90's look on vintage drag cars at all.
