Default Transmission without speedo gear assembly

Has anyone run across a th400 transmission in a car that has no where to hook speedo cable?

Just pulled one out of full size 69 Oldsmobile.
It has a metal plug where speedo gear assembly would be.

Some cars a few years before that ran speedo cable from left front hub. Cable end poked thru the bearing cap. I can't recall any specific years or models. Maybe I'm imagining this. YMMV.

Typical for them Olds. Very nice core guts in there with 3 hi-density Torrington bearings. Probably 121 Front Pump.

Nope, it's real. Mid to late sixties Oldsmobiles apparently did this. Jetstar models, which were light duty full sizes. Some discussion over on the olds site, very niche, obscure models.

Yep, olds full size and only for a few years. Good cores, I've had a few.

YEP. Bought one back in the late 60's from "midnite auto". NO speedo provisions.
They make good race trannys, one less place to leak.

Just looked and the speedo cable is hooked to back of spindle. It's a Olds 98.

Kinda off topic but not if you use the trans…

I bought gauges for my 72 bird from speedhut that are gps enabled and use a satellite rather than a speedometer cable to tell you the speed. Very nice quality and reasonably priced
