With my day job and running the shop taking up all my time, the old Firebird just seems to sit around and collect dust. I decided to drive it to my day job today and put a couple miles on her. 3300 rpm at 60mph isn't very fuel efficient but it's only a 15 mile drive. I will tell you that it does turn some heads, I guess a 1970 Firebird on the highway during morning traffic isn't a very common site. The car is a solid but needs a paint job so I don't mind parking it in the secure lot. How many other guys take their classic to work on occation? Just seems to make more sense to take the car somewhere I have to go instead of burning gas driving around aimlessly waiting to get stopped by the Fun Police.

I posted on other threads, but I noticed a difference this year on driving the 71 / 72 birds around a bit. I rarely see other vintage cars at the time I am driving mine. Where these cars were more commonplace and nobody really looked much, even into the 90's, people now look at me like I am driving a spaceship from Mars. There is no way to not attract attention now. People roll windows down and holler stuff. Forget being low key. I honestly sometimes like the compliments, but sometimes it is weird and feel like I am driving a neon sign also, and neither of the cars is a bright color.

The other weird thing is when I am among Montana big pick ups on the road in my bird I feel small. When I am among todays cars I feel big. In the old days, birds always felt small (?)

I drive the 68 Cat to work occasionally but we've had so much rain lately that I leave it home most days. It's nice to drive early in the morning around 6:30 or so when there's no traffic and I can run 75 down our US Hwy.

I actually drove my 70 GTO to work yesterday. The wife came and got it around 10am, took it to a car show they have once a year at her work then brought it back to me around 3pm. I left work after 5 then went straight to a cruise in and local GTOA club meeting so she got her legs stretched for the day!
I might drive it once a year to work if I'm lucky. My commute is 29 miles each way with a bunch of idiots on the highway along the way so I fear someone (besides me) will do something stupid which in turn would cause me to do something stupid!

If I drove the 74, I'd go broke in gas and probably get a handful of tickets along the way..

I regularly use my cars for running errands. Going to the store, picking up or dropping off kids at practices, etc.
I'd like to take them to work, but as a building contractor it's a bit difficult. Every once in a while, if I'm on a long term job, I'll leave enough tools on the job that I can drive one of my Pontiacs.

Once a year. We have a "classic car day" at work (usually on a Friday) and everyone brings their car in. We have a special area of the parking lot taped off for us.

I've driven my '64 Goat and the '72 Camaro to work many times. Even a few business trips (requiring an overnight stay).

Currently I rarely drive my cars to work, because I now cover a very large territory (Southern MN and Northern IA) and frequently have to venture on some gravel roads. My current company car (2011 Impala) takes that abuse and the 1,000 miles per week.

Big Moe...ive been at your shop n the past..I sell bodyshop equip and ive been there..been years ago..but i know where your at...neat to see those cars in the lot..i put some equipment in the BMW shop in town..

when i started as a bodyman it was to build my cars and i was a car nut...todays generation..its very hard to find a bodyman that even owns an old car...

I drive mine to work at least once a week if the weather cooperates. On reasonably warm and dry mornings, I put the top down and take the long way to work. Due to my busy schedule, it is often the only time I get behind the wheel. I also use it for running errands when there is a large parking lot that allows me to park a considerable distance from the masses.

mines not so nice, so i drive it were ever. work, grocery store, etc. i never figured gas mileage, but it's not a far drive to work and i'm sure the 2.56's help. it's the cost of rubber that bites me, i cave to peer pressure
