the "296" L147 dates out Dec 14, 77 for a mid '78 model build.
Being that date range, it could have the full cast impeller or the abbreviated impeller used on 301 cars.

9799124 is the '70 wp. These began being cast in G of '69 & that particular casting number was used for all '70 model V8's & a few very early '71 builds.

Speaking of the "124" casting wp, it is the first tall (4.5" hub height) 11 bolt wp, there was no early '69 wp, late '69 water pump deal. Many website sources, including Butler Performance's site keep spewing misinformation concerning a late '69 wp being used, that is NOT true, all original '69 Pontiac V8's originally used a "351" casting (4" hub height) water pump.

The "124"s were first cast for '70 production engines in July of '69. Even late build '69 Firebirds will still use the short "351" casting pump due to the tight fan clearance when built with a 5 blade flex fan & the the really thin fan spacer that always was used with it.

By mid 1970 production, Pontiac had issued a service bulletin & was instructing their dealership service dept's that all '69 short hub "351" casting water pumps needing replacement will be replaced with a new "124" casting pump & to replace the water pump pulley with the correct '70 model pulley. This GM service practice continued on for years.

Ames has been offering a reproduction '69 "351" casting wp (the 4" hub height 11bolt pump). The font of the casting number of the reproduction is off, & not sure what date is on it, but it's relatively cheap. Have been rebuilding original casting wp's for many years. Restoring a very late built '69 GTO or a late season '69 Firebird or T/A, have a fresh rebuilt pristine original late '351 casting pump, casting date is in early June of '69.
