Question Kanter strut bushings?

I bought some of these for my 63 Lemans. They are "bell shaped" as opposed to the originals which are "flat donut shaped". For anyone that has installed a set of the Kanter bushings-- About how thick are they after installation and the front end has been aligned?

I am doing a rebuild of the front crossmember and I want to get the bushings roughly adjusted prior to driving the car to alignment shop. Any insights would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Hi, TempestFugit is there anyway that you could post some photos of these new & NOS, parts? I know mine on one side could use replaced, maybe in the spring. Thank you,

Default bushings

I modifyed a set of ford F-150 bushings for mine. You saw off about 3/8 off the big ends and then 1/2 inch off the part that goes through the brackets. Basically cut them down to match the old bushings worked well for me and only cost 7.00 for both sides.

That's a good idea, I also bought an inner steel sleeve for my other side, which I worked on last summer from Lowes hardware store. One one side my locknuts are both frozen SOILD onto the threaded shaft. I think I am going to have to heat up the nuts to get them loose!

What year F150? I have to do the strut bushing replacement on my car, too.

Does anybody know of any other bushing and grommet supplier? I am in need of some rubber parts for the rear control arms. I am not beyond modifying bushings from some other car/truck/bus as a donor. Improvising is fun.

I used some body mount material they use between a jeep body and frame. I comes in a two foot length. Cut it on a power miter box. Right outside diameter and hole size. Four wheel drive hardware and others.

I believe it was a 78 model. All you will use is the rubber parts. I purchased the cheap set not the moog ones they were twice as high. The o.d. was the same and the i.d. was right but required shortening to match the oe ones. Takes some engineering but worked great.

Default Clarification...

So it appears the pencil strut bushing on the front end can be fabricated by shortening '78 F150 bushings (pencil strut on the Ford too???).

And the rear control arm bushings can be had from the cut-to-length body bushing 'tube' you can purchase for Jeep Wranglers.

Please correct me if I'm wrong. This is extremely valuable information.

I'am talking about the big rubber bushings on the treaded rods that go to the front lower A arms.
