Thanks to everyone for the advice...I guess I had to hear the same thing I was thinking out loud from Pro's....it was the pitman out of sync...I did the tape trick both ways and centered...re assembled and it works perfectly...my project is a 71' conv. I put a 2015 LT1 out of a vette and a 8l90E..I'm about 70% finished at this point lots more stupid questions to come..haha

Excellent.

Your penance is to post a few pix of this 71 ragtop

I am considering the same drivetrain so questions may come to you!

Default My project

71" conv.GTO .Curry 9" rear 3.50 gear Hotchkiss springs front & rear lowered 2" ridetech drop shocks in rear bilstein in front...tubular control arms...17"x9 aluminum Honeycomb wheels..wilwood Brakes master to rotor..Speartech harness for the LT1 8L09E combo...long tube hedders...fiberglass hood(sucks)...ARE dry sump tank (no place at all the factory vette tank will fit)...I have a lot of extra parts for this model...The body was a basket case when I got the car...so stock would have been ridiculous...the only thing I am not doing myself is the body and paint...As soon as I can figure out how to post pics..I'll put a bunch up from sandblasting the frame to fabricating the trans. tunnel...you might get more than you bargained for ..lol

Oh, I see your doing a quick and easy low budget build. Post up the pictures, of course some might not like the LT1, but its your build Sounds like it going to be a nice cruiser.

I'm going to have to tackle this soon because it won't be long before I put the steering wheel on and do the first lock to lock testing since complete disassembly. On my 68, when I reinstalled the factory pitman back on the factory box seems like I remember asymmetric splines ... it would only go on one way. Faulty memory?

I never took the pitman off the box...I had it rebuilt about a year before tear down and installed it without thinking...I did not realize my mistake until I got the new steering wheel and column..it was a simple fix and a few people's opinion on here helped a lot..Click image for larger version
