Default Was there a Super Duty 4 cylinder?

You learn something new every day. Did Pontiac make a Super Duty 195?

Yes they did. Block, crank, head, intake and carb were different than the production 195.

Damn. You know what else was different -- the flywheel.

Here is a picture. It's lighter.

I was ignorant so I sold it for $10.50 on eBay, thinking it was a regular one. I don't own any 4 cyl motors, and all I was thinking was, this doesn't fit my 326.

I posted the Special Equipment pages from the 1961 parts catalog here: http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/....php?p=4659167 There's a bunch of SD stuff for Tempests in there, look for parts marked 21 series - for instance, a set of Mickey Thompson rods and pistons had a factory part number.

I had a complete NOS SD head, all the valves, springs, everything for the Pace car SD Fiero a couple years back. Rocky from HPP photographed everything at the nationals in Norwalk. I had several photos on here also. It has since gone to a new home where I guy is building a pace car clone as accurate as possible. When I dropped off all the components he had no less than 50, 75 pehaps 100 Fiero's there, pretty amazing on how many he had amassed.

Tim john,

Are you sure it was me that photographed it?

21 series is just the code for any Tempest parts. 23 series was Catalinas, 25 series was Venturas, 26 series was Star Chiefs, 28 series was Bonnevilles.

My opinion is that the term "super duty" didn't exist yet in 1961 (except internally within PMD, per people like Jim Wangers). Parts we now refer to as "super duty" were documented as "heavy duty" back then.
