FIREBIRDS & TRANS AMS GET SOME LOVE

Performance Years has been producing Classic Pontiac Parts catalogs for the last 20 years. Over the years we have changed, updated and improved our catalogs to better serve our customers (who remembers the pocket size catalogs of the mid-90's). In 2007, we released a huge upgrade to our GTO/Tempest/Lemans catalog. It featured extended product descriptions, more pages, new products and over 1400 full color pictures. We got great feedback like "Great job!" and "It's about time!" from our GTO, Tempest & Lemans customers. But the consensus from our Firebird and Trans Am customers was "What about us?" I'm happy to tell all of our Firebird and Trans Am customers that your patience has finally paid off!

After several months of hard work, Performance Years released it's newest 1967-81 Firebird & Trans Am catalog (Volume 12F) at the begining of April 2007. This new Firebird/Trans Am catalog is bigger, brighter and better than ever before. We spent months taking new, full color product pictures to pack into this new catalog. And because we had so many great new pictures, we had to add an additional 32 pages to the catalog, just to fit them all in. We've also taken the product notes we accumulated over the last 20+ years and included them right next to each product. These extended descriptions include product dimensions, fitment notes, reproduction quality and originality information, installation recommendation and even corresponding GM Numbers. Also throughout this new catalog you will find Installation tips, production notes, product recommendations and historic Pontiac knowledge to enrich your shopping experience and the hobby as a whole. This new Firebird & Trans Am catalog is also jam packed with every new product we could get our hands on.

We're really proud of how the new catalog turned out and hope out Firebird & Trans Am customers appreciate all the effort we put it. If you haven't yet seen this new catalog, You can download the PDF version of this catalog or request a print catalog get mailed to you (expect 2-4 weeks for delivery).

As the years continue to fly by and Performance Years continues to release new volumes of our catalogs, we strive to improve our catalog's quality with each issue. A huge factor we take into account with each new issue is the feedback we get from our customers. If you have a chance, send us your ideas and comments. Your comments can help to make the next volume, that much better.

  GTO/TEMPEST/LEMANS - NEW PRODUCT INSERT

It's already been a few months since the completion of our GTO/Tempest/Lemans catalog and there are a number of great products that have been released since. Because there are too many exciting products to wait until the next volume of the catalog is done, We've created a new products insert for the current catalog (volume 11A). This two page insert has over 150 new products, plus color pictures and extended descriptions.

There are three ways to get a copy of this insert:
  1. You can pick up this insert at any event we are attending this year.
  2. These inserts are now included in every GTO/Tempest/Lemans catalog we mail out.
  3. You can download a PDF copy of the insert here

  A PONTIAC PICKUP?
    WHEN HAS THAT EVER WORKED?

by Don Keefe

Last month, the New York Auto Show was abuzz over Pontiac-GMC’s announcement of three new cars in as many days. They debuted the new Solstice coupe, the G8 GXP and a pickup version of the G8 similar in concept to the old Chevy El Caminos. In Australia, where these Holden-based machines are coming from, they are known as “Utes.”

I have to say that Pontiac-GMC really did surprise us...

  TEXAS HOLD'EM COMES TO PY

by Chris Casperson

Texas Holdem is sweeping the country and really the world and there’s no exception on our own PY Forums. In February, PY forums members got together for a good ole’ fashioned wild west poker tournament with a twist. Each member played in the tournament from the comfort of his own home. PAcop73 was our 1st...

GAS PRICES GOT YOU BURNED UP?
    DON'T STOP DRIVING... STOP WASTING!

by John Buchta

If the high cost of getting around is getting you down, apply some of these common sense tips to your driving habits and save some serious coin this summer!

First the math:

The average American uses 500 gallons of gasoline every year.
The average vehicle is driven about 12,000 miles per year.
That means the average car gets an average of 24 miles-per-gallon of gas.
At $3.25 per gallon, that means that each mile traveled costs about 7 ½ cents.
This summer, (4 months) the average American will spend about $550.00 for gasoline.

Here’s how to save!
Without working very hard, you save a minimum of 10 percent on fuel by...

  PY FORUMS TECHNICAL TIP:
    PARTS MASTER GM PARTS LOOKUP

Many of you are already well aware that the Parts Master Database is a FREE perk you get access to when you subscribe to the Pontiac Journal. It's a really helpful tool if you have a part with a GM part number and want to know what it fits. But a big drawback of the system is that you can't use it to discover the GM part number of a part you already know what it fits. Until now!!

We've finally got all the information you need to do a reverse lookup on a part you are looking for or just pulled off your car. The process is a little more involved but well worth the effort. Here is what you'll need to do:

Looking up a GM part number all revolves around discovering that part's GM Group number. In order to do that, you'll start by figuring out which of the following Generic groups your part will fall into.

------
0.000   ENGINE - CLUTCH
1.000   COOLING - GRILLE - OIL SYSTEM
2.000   STARTER - ALTERNATOR - DISTRIBUTOR - CHASSIS - WIRING - LAMP
3.000   FUEL - EXHAUST - CARBURETION
4.000   TRANSMISSION - BRAKES
5.000   BRAKES - REAR AXLE - PROPELLER SHAFT - WHEELS
6.000   FRONT SUSPENSION - STEERING
7.000   FRAME - SPINGS - SHOCKS - BUMPERS
8.000   FRONT END SHEET METAL - HEATER
9.000   AIR CONDITIONING - INSTRUMENT CLUSTER
------
10.000   DOORS - REGULATORS - WINDSHIELD - WIPER - WASHER - INSTRUMENT PANEL - CONSOLE - WEATHERSTRIP
11.000   REAR GLASS - SEAT PARTS - ADJUSTER
12.000   BODY MOLDINGS - SHEET METAL - END GATE
13.000   CONVERTIBLE TOP TRIM - BODY WIRING
14.000   CONVERTIBLE TOP HARDWARE - INTERIOR TRIM - SEAT BELTS
15.000   REAR SEAT TRIM - CARPETS - YARDAGE - MATS
------

If your part falls into the groups above labeled 0-9, you next need to find your product's description in this alphabetical list of parts.

Or if your part falls into the groups above labeled 10-12, you need to find your product's description in this alphabetical list of parts

These lists will tell you the GM Group Number that your part will be under.

Once you have the GM Group Number, open the Parts Master Database and choose to search by Group Number. Enter the Group Number you just looked up into the field and click Search.

Parts Master will then give you a list of all of the parts in it's database that are in that Group Number. From that list, you then need to scan down the car type, year range and description of the parts in the list until you find the part that matches your own criteria. The number next to the matching description will be your GM Part Number.

I know what you are thinking. That sounds like a lot of work. But just think about your other options: Buy a used GM Parts Book off of Ebay and scan the pages until you find the part that you need or skip looking up the GM number altogether. Not looking so bad anymore, is it?

  UPCOMING 2008 EVENTS

by Chris Casperson

PY Pontiacs In the Park! - May 30th-June 1st
This year’s 5th annual event has been strategically moved to the last week in May! So look for some great weather and the biggest turnout yet. The 3 day event has become the premier Pontiac event weekend on the East Coast. It’s also the first major event of the year for all of us east of the Mississippi. I don’t know about you, but after staring at snow, cold rain and generally depressing weather all winter, this conveniently located Virginia based event can’t come any sooner!

As a little spiff for the PY Forums members, we are offering prime Hospitality Suite passes for either Saturday or Sunday. While you’re racing, your family or friends can be watching from behind the starting line in air conditioned comfort. Limited passes are available on a first come first serve basis. Maximum of 4 per member.
Click here to learn how to request FREE Hospitality Suite passes.

We'd also like to invite everyone to the 5th Annual Saturday Night PY BBQ. Each year Performance Years hosts a BBQ at our show tent on Saturday night, where PY customers and Forums members can get together, share some food, drink and have a good time. We expect this year will be no exception. PY will be providing burgers, hot dogs, some sides & soft drinks. Anyone attending is welcome to bring additional food, drinks and merriment to share. PY's chief mixologist will also be on hand, with some extremely volatile alcoholic concoctions (in case anyone is trying to pass a liver). These festivities will commence at the end of the racing event (usually around 7:00pm). We hope to see and meet another great group of Ponti-yankers again this year.

36th Annual POCI Convention - July 8th-12th
Spearfish, SD is opening it's doors this year to host the 2008 POCI National Convention. This picturesque city is situated adjacent to the Black Hills National Forest and boasts of it's "classic turn-of-the-century character" and scenic locales. I hope they are prepared for the thousands of hardcore Pontiac enthusiasts that will be decending on their pieceful little town the second week in July. Because they are only a few miles from the legendary Sturgis Motorcycle Show, I'm sure the locals have a good idea of what to expect. Spearfish's closeness to Mt. Rushmore and the Badlands also makes it an enticing destination for family vacations. Add to that, gas prices generally $0.25/gal. less then the national average and this small town in South Dakota is shaping up to be a great location for an All Pontiac car show. Make your plans and bring your cars, it should be one great time.

29th Annual GTOAA Nationals - July 15th-19th
This year’s GTO nationals bring us to beautiful Saratoga Springs, NY. For those of you unfamiliar with this area, it is in upstate New York north east of Albany. I’ve been there several times and it is a great place to spend several days vacationing with others sharing their love of GTOs. The New York Chapter members have been hard at work fully expecting this to be one of the most memorable GTOAA conventions ever.
