Default 77 GP trunk lock cover

Is there any kits or anything out there that I can use to repair my truck lock cover? It came apart on me last night. I was able to get the base off the trunk and it appears that the spring or whatever was holding it together has vanished.

I have never seen any kit for that and with low production numbers and few GP's of that body style still out there....not likely we will ever see any parts reproduced.

But NOS Trunk Lock Covers do pop up on ePay once in a while.

I have the same problem with my 76 GP and couldn't find a spring anywhere. I bought a used trunk lock cover for an Olds and hope to use the spring to fix mine. Cheap GM used lock covers can be found on ebay.

When you guys get your lock covers fix. You might want to consider a power trunk release. That's what I've done with my '76 so I don't have to mess with the key back there any more.

Does anyone know what size rivet to use to secure the lock cover to the trunk? It should be a closed end countersunk rivet I believe.

My suggestion to you is to take your cover to Fastenal and see if you can match something up. I remember needing them back in '83 for my '77 SJ. Even the Pontiac dealer couldn't get them. I ended up buying a new cover which came with the rivets.

I finally got around to fixing my trunk lock cover. I used the spring from a cheap beat up cover I bought on ebay and put it on my clean cover. I used rivets from NAPA part # BK6652375.
