We have an 81 Lemans wagon. We have put a 400 inbetween the frame rails. We converted the car from power brakes to manual originally using the conversion kit from Master Power. Everything is new including the brake lines which run in the stock location. Inside of roughly 50 miles and five passes we have gone thru three porportioning valves. This weekend we think we broke another. The car will drive for a short distance and then the front brakes will lock up. The distance is equal to making one pass and coming back to the pits. Then the front locks up. Is there any chance that leaving the brake lines in there stock position have been effected by header heat? Looking thru part numbers we find the valve is the same part number for the wagon with power brakes or manual. Is this true? We have bought valves from Master Power, GM and the local auto parts store. All were the same and failed. Any help here would be greatly appreciated. Have never had this problem and it has us stumped.

Are you sure that it's both fronts locking or just one. I read your post and you said everything was new, how about the front flex hoses from frame to caliper. When these get old they will let you brake, but don't release. If they are new disregard this post.HopIHlpd

Both front brakes are locking. The hoses and lines are new. I will check the hoses just in case. It wouldn't be the first brand new part puchased that failed right out of the box.

There is a good article on pg. 72 of the new National Dragster volume 44 issue 23 on changing from power to man. brakes, but no mention of your problem. I like the part about elongating the foot brake pedal to gain more braking. Hope it's those hoses but good luck.
