LOL been looking for a nice 72 for years this is one of the reasons I am a Pontiac guy My cousin had a Blue 72 GT when I was 15 and I loved that car. I still have the II but it is spoken for also have a back up buyer. Just started on a 68 driver but if I get this it will go back in storage and I will be driving this.

Has anyone been able to talk to the seller? I think the car is worth about $10k but with his discription and pictures I'm surprised people will gamble over $5k. There isn't any proof that the motor and trans match the car and there isn't any explaination of the damage to the engine and if the block is savable. Also the car is sitting on a lift and he can't take pictures under the car! The nice garage and other cars in the pictures add some credibility that this is a collector and not a shade tree flipper but with the vague discription and poor pictures I'm not sure what to think of this one. I like the rear deck lid and rear quarter corners but with the repaint there is no telling if those are solid metal or filler. Judging by the solid lower fenders the car is probably pretty good but there are alot of unknowns.

I guess it comes down to what's the car worth restored numbers matching, what's it worth 'period correct' if the motor and trans are gone/unsavable and what will it cost to restore it?

The guy responded back and answered about %10 of my questions. For those interested he said he checked the motor and transmission and he said they matched the ones in the car so that's good news.

Who were the two of you who duked it out?

$6,300 seems like a fair price.

Very well bought if it is how he described it... the shipping cost and the fact I have 2 camaros coming my way made me duck out. I thought it would go for over $8k.

Was trying to contact the seller through eBay earlier today. Couldn't get the message to load. Probably a good deal, as have my hands full with '71 & 72 LeMans restorations.

Whoever won the auction I hope posts in, & notes what state it was being sold out of. That was 1st thing I was wondering, then whether it still had its original block & born with M22. If the latter two are original, can see a mid 30K car, all done. Not that someone would be building it to cut corners & flip. Hope whoever got it sees it as a labor of love & has the skills to do a lot of work on it their selves.

Lynn, if you won it, where was it being shipped out of?

Nice buy Lyn! Report back and let us know about the drive line numbers, I think I can speak for all of us that it would be awesome if it's the born with components.

The car is out of Rancho Cucamonga, California. The lack of pictures and communication rubbed me the wrong way. I have taken gambles and won but I have also lost enough to be wise on how much risk I'm willing to take.

It's the type of car that if you pay a shop to restore it properly your going to be under water but if you can do alot of the work yourself you will be in good shape. I agree with the mid $30k restored value. I think the car has alot of potential for more as time progresses and the 70-72's become more main stream.

Thanks 68firebird455, Mark, Chris, its paid for and will be picked up in the morning, so I will know what I bought by next Wensday or so! Hopefully its good news. I will post some pictures when it arrives. I've got plenty of parts so I won't be looking for anything and have my Fremont built 4-speed Luxury Lemans that is all orignal to reference off of. Hope the block is still good! Its a gamble, but I missed out on the '72 m-22 H.O. car 10 miles from me, so after all these years maybe this will ease the pain of that.

Lyn.

congrats on the purchase. look forward to more posts about it.

I was discussing this with a friend today, and he pointed out that the vin is one digit short. I think I've read about this before, maybe a fremont deal. can anyone chime in on this?

Way to go Lyn! I've got a 72 non A/c uncut dash bezel for ya if you don't have one! It's out of a GTO, but no dash swirl inserts. Holes are there above the radio. You won't be disappointed with a California car! Bet that underneath is Cleeeeeean!
