Letters in Camaro spoiler
Those who have installed a Camaro rear spoiler and put the PONTIAC letters and/or the engine size numbers in it. Can you tell me any issues you ran in to. Or any tips ?

My car had a Camaro spoiler on it when I got it and I added the PONTIAC lettering. I found that the studs did not stick out the back side enough for the metal speed nuts to grab. I used a thread die (#6-32? I don't remember the exact size) to thread each stud and used a nylon nut on the back.
For a couple of the letters, the studs are spaced too close together to get the die over the stud, so I threaded the speed nuts on separately to create a rough thread on the stud and then used the nylon nuts to grab the rough thread on each stud. The metal stud basically re-threaded the nylon nut. This method works well enough if you don't feel like threading them with the die. I also had to grind away a bit of internal reinforcing structure that was too close to the studs for the nuts to fit. I attached a template that I created. It wasn't taken from an actual Pontiac trunk, but I think the spacing looks pretty good. The original JPG image was actual size, but I think the forum software resized the image. Resize the image back to its original size of 973x568 pixels. |
