Default Bracket. What's it for?

This is on my 67 front subframe. I thought this was for the lower control arm bumpers but, no. There was a flat piece of steel with a bolt going through the hole still hanging on the frame when I took it apart but if there ever was rubber attached to it it was long gone. I thought I remembered that 7s had the bumpers on the frame and 8-9s were on the LCAs but the lowers are all they list in the crappymarket catalogs. Anybody know?

Default bumper

This sure looks like the bracket that holds the bumper for the lower control arm to me.

The bumpstop mounts on the lower control arm. Pics a little fuzzy but should be clear enough.

That's what most agree with but I have seen other applications ( 67 Camaro ) that have the rubber bumper mounted to this bracket facing down and no holes in the lower control arm for mounting the bumper. I think maybe Pont engineers decided the LCA mounted bumper was the better plan and adjusted the maro design for bird production. Just a guess on my part tho.
