Has anyone here had this upgrade done to their 1st Gen Firebird?

More details? We're looking to put an overdrive automatic in place of a TH400 in a '68 with 434 Butler motor.

Dick,
I'm asking if anyone else has had this upgrade done by Art Carr/CPT. I already had it done, I have a court date on June 4, 2020.

If you like, email me offline for info.

I can tell you you'll need the following to do a 2004R upgrade from a TH400.

1) New or shortened driveshaft.
2) Likely a new cross member to have it fit correctly if you have the floor console shifter like mine did.
3) A complete set of Shiftworks auto trans shifter kit, including the neutral safety switch upgrade, 4 speed shift kit w/indicator, and likely a new transmission shift cable (32" long is what Shiftworks recommends).
4) Get the auxiliary tranny cooler, mounted near or in front of your radiator, plus the extra lines to add it on.
5) 2004R tranny with whatever yoke is closest to your TH400 length. They make two from what I've seen. I'd get the Stage 2 or one that handles more than the base 400hp if you have a built Butler 435 motor. They come in 3 stages for HP, 400hp, 700 and 1000 hp ratings (this may vary slightly).
6) Speedometer external adapter, plus calibration gear kit. This will depend on your rear axle ratio in the car and your tire's outside diameter, so there's not a universal gear kit. Mine had to be changed 7 times, the final time by a local speedometer / gauge shop since Art Carr / CPT didn't have the gears or couldn't get it dialed in after six attempts.

Email me for more info if needed. jim@scumbackspeakers.com
