Seeing the detail level of the Repops, I decided to try them in the rear windows. I was hopeful that with the correct slide block in place, the windows would go up and down fully. No matter how I adjust the glass, the chrome frame would not fit between the two sweeps, preventing the window from going all the way up. Here's a couple pictures comparing my original slide blocks to the Repops parts. Pretty good copies.

Because I couldn't get the windows to go all the way up, it was time to modify the Repops sweeps. The problem is the thickness of the lower bead on both the inner and outer. The outer is much easier to modify because it doesn't have the clips in the way, so I modified only the outer. I stripped the rubber off of the bottom bead with a utility knife, this took some time to get it all off. Then I carefully peened the rolled metal bead on the bottom so it was flat. Here's an overall shot showing the modified outer, and an edge shot, showing the thickness before and after modification.

A couple more notes about the Repops. First, the premade screw holes lined right up with the factory screw holes. The PUI's did not. Second, I did have to elongate a couple of the bend tabs on the outer to get them in the correct position on the belt line moldings for the screw holes to all line up. Easy with a utility knife. Third, the clips on the inners of the Repops are green. When they're installed, it's possible to see the very top edge of the clip in the gap between the sweep and interior panel. This picture shows that I blacked out the top of the clip with a Sharpie. It's enough to make it not noticible.

And finally, success. Both rear windows go up to fully closed. I still need to do the doors, maybe this coming weekend.

Overall, the Repops parts are much nicer than the PUI parts, but still require some work.

I had the same problem and the same solution when I got to the fronts. You need to make the lower portion of the outer thinner, just as I showed on the rears.

Ron, on your post #42, I see how you trimmed and peened the bead. But it also looks like the lip has been trimmed. Maybe I'm just not sure what I'm looking at.
Thanks

Tempest1964, I see what you're saying, but no, I didn't trim the lip. It must have been that way from repops.

Thanks Ron. I looked some more and I think maybe it was opposite ends. Maybe

I'm sorry but this actually made me laugh out loud! Also sorry that knowing I am not alone with these thoughts gives me some relief!

I'm going through the same situation right now, and the issue with the window felts is only one area that's causing similar frustration.

I'm from Canada, and so returning this crap to our host is very costly, not to mention the loss of $$ exchanging my dollars into USD and back to CAD for the returns. Its especially frustrating when I have the vendor on the phone and ask them about the quality of the part.

Anyways, I won't go on and on. I love the hobby and I love my 65. After close to 4 years we are nearing the end of the restoration and I'm afraid the pain isn't over yet.

getting back on topic, of all the vendors, who has had success with what as far as window felts go for a hardtop. I have tried PUI and now Cat Whiskers and still don't have anything that I feel is worth trying to install.

I know Steele Rubber as also selling them, but can't seem to find any reviews. Anyone with any advice on the best available product I would love to hear your experience.

I just bought the Repops, the better version for a 65 HT. The inside fuzzies fit nice but the outside rubber are absolutely useless.
