Default 67 Fender Skirt Removal

Any secrets to getting these off/to release? My car was restored 20 years ago and have not been removed since. Fortunately, it’s still pretty clean there and not real rusty, but they’re not budging. If I’m looking at them correctly, I need to push the lever towards the latch to get them to release. Here’s a pic of the passenger side for reference. Currently soaking with Kroil and WD40.

Lift the arm up near the bottom lip of the skirt so that the end of the arm can come out of the bottom lip. Then lowering the arm will release the top clamp.

Hey man, thanks. They're now released. Do I next need to unbolt the locking tabs on each end next? Like a small 1/4" bolt on each end.

Shouldn't need any tools or to loosen any bolts. The skirt should be able to be wiggled off.

I think the bolts are just holding on the rubber trim on the perimeter of the skirt. Just unfasten the latch and pull out on the bottom, it should come loose.

They're off. Thanks guys. Now to find some wheels with extra backspacking to get them to fit. Had a buddy loan me a 17 x 8 wheel with 215/55/17 tire and it barely fits without the skirt(and won't with the skirt). Has 4.5" backspacking. Was wanting to run off the shelf wheels but may look into a custom 5.00 backspacking. That would be about perfect.

My '67 Grand Prix is running 20's on the rear and 18's BOSS wheels on the front. They are WIDE but they clear. If you wish, I can try to find out the offsets. I've never pulled my skirts off (ha!) either but its time I did just to make sure they function properly....

That'd be great just as an FYI for me on your wheel size and backspacing(tire size too). My car is white like yours, so it gives me a good point of reference on the contrast with the wheels. I'm looking at similar.

In all honesty, I would not have chosen this wheel/tire setup. They were on the car when I bought it. I'm going to run the tires off and probably buy Wheel vintique rally wheels. I'll be rebuilding the front end and rear axle seals end of this month and will post wheel/tire sizes and offsets.

Let's see an image of your car!!!

It may not be directly applicable to a 1967, but you may want to look through this discussion in the 1961-1966 section about tire and wheel sizes - there may be some useful information.

I'm probably going with Torque Thrust 2's. They sell a 17 x 8 with 5.00 BS that should work fine on the back. I just converted the front over to disc with a Scarebird kit and also swapped it over to 4.75 bolt pattern. Not wanting to spend a lot of money and these are off the shelf and priced pretty reasonable. If I spend the money on this car I do on my others, I'd also swap rear axles over to the 4.75 bolt pattern and have a lot more options but I think I'm good where I"m at now.

Heres a pic from when I took my daughter to prom in it last Spring. It’s bone stock.

Default Tire sizes.

Ran down to my shop and the rears are 275/40-20 and the fronts are 235/50-18. The fronts will rub a bit turning tight then hitting a bump. The rears do not rub but I suspect that the air shocks on the rear are there for that reason. The shock mounts are actually well inside the rim.
Your plan is a good one. The Torque Thrusts will look great. When I replace these I’ll probably buy Wheel Vintique 16x7 Rally wheels.

Good looking car, post a shot with the new shoes. H

I'm running 17x8 with 4" backspacing on a 225R60-17 tire on a 67 GP. No issues rubbing.

New wheels and tires are on. Front are 17x7 with 215/60/17(barely clear bottom of front fenders) and rears are 17x8 with 235/60/17(3/8 skirt clearance). The fronts are 4" backspacing and the rears are 5". Marked improvement over the 14’s with hubcaps. Gotta get a couple more lug nuts, but I know they fit now.
