I used the Lightening Dark units based on FJ’s recommendation-literally night and day difference.

Insane - I never use the high beams!

I bought a different/less expensive brand for the kids’ 2011 Altima and the results were subpar…

I know what you mean. I probably spent about $250 on different LED's before I found the Lightening Dark. I just wasn't happy with the others.

It's why I really don't want to buy a kit. I'd rather piece meal it with stuff I know works. It's why I'm hesitant to buy a kit from RMS and he doesn't seem to want to sell just conversion headlight lenses.

My kit is supposed to be here tomorrow from RMS. I will install over the weekend and pst pictures.

He made a post this morning showing all the LED bulbs being gone through one by one to test them, which I thought was a nice gesture.

LOL I guess the trick question to get silence is to ask him if he sells the conversion lenses separate.

I installed my RMS kit today. Changing headlights is a low key hard job. Maybe there are just tricks I don’t know. I broke two of my retainers and had to weld them back together.

I’ll take a night drive later and see how improved it is if the weather cooperates.

Its probably been awhile since you had that all apart? I just completed a restoration so all that stuff up front was recently all apart on my 70. Its looks good,,interested in hearing what you think of them driving.

Maybe 7-8 years. Honestly I remember it being a nightmare the first time too. But again, I think maybe I’m not doing it right.

The brights light up the night. Which was awesome for deer country around here. The low beams were a little lackluster initially, but honestly I think I don’t have them aimed at the road. I think they were both high. I don’t have a good spot to align them but I’m going to try and make it better than it is.

I’ve asked a few shops if they have a headlight alignment machine. Nobody seems to have them anymore.

Used to have a small bubble alignment attachment for headlights that would attach to the headlight via suction cups. Dealers used them all the time decades ago when I worked there. Not much use for them these days.

I've seen them on ebay from time to time.

Did it seem like your lows were aimed properly before? If they were and since you don't have to mess with the adjustments to put the new bulbs in I'd say the new leds might project higher than the originals.

When I've installed the LED's I've adjusted my headlights down just a pinch. They are so much brighter than a regular bulb you simply don't need to aim them up as high. That is as long as you get a good quality LED. Some of the lesser LED's I tried didn't matter where you aimed them, they just scattered light everywhere.

Probably not. I was never comfortable driving at night so I never put any real effort into it.

I also had them backwards. Brights on the outside. Fixed that this time around. So it would all be out if wack anyway.

Usually pointing them at a white wall or garage door will work for aiming them, the owners manual might actually have a spec chart for aiming them with this method. It gives the distance back from the wall, and the height each beam should hit the wall.

Good way to check for light scatter too. A good lens and reflector will have a definite upper cutoff line with emphasis to the right. Avoids glare to the opposite side

I was reading an article recently about just adding a relay with direct battery power to the standard sealed beam lights. When you apply direct battery instead of the power flowing to the switch and coming back that can increase luminescence. I would think the same would apply to halogens.

Oddly that Lectric Limited set linked says it doesnt fit my 67? Which I think is a typo. I dont see why it would fit a 4 headlight 68-72 but not a 67.

I had been looking at Hella housings off of Summit and then some generic halogen bulbs. Im afraid to drive my car at night with the terrible OEM lights here in deer country.

Relays aren't *required* but halogen bulbs are quite voltage sensitive and as Rocktimus speculates, they will be brighter with relays. Measure the voltage at the headlight socket and then at the battery and I bet you'll find a significant difference. On my old truck, I'm only seeing 11.4 volts at the headlight socket when I'm seeing 12.6 at the battery. I installed halogen H4 conversion housings in it (OEM was sealed beams) and that made a really nice difference and I know if I ever get around to installing the relays it will be even better.

BUT, LEDs have improved so much in the last few years I might just go that route instead as they aren't as sensitive to the voltage drop and will still put out great light. I'm definitely going to convert my Formula to LED if I can find a good kit that provides bright, well focused light and isn't ridiculously expensive.
