Default 1974 Pontiac Formula 455 (F.A.S.T. Racer)

After several months of consideration, my F.A.S.T. Formula 455 is for sale.

Over the next few days I will be adding info to the thread to help out as this is not the average 1974 Formula. Here are some of the highlights of the car as I found it.

1. The car is a documented 19k mile car
2. Sold new in Michigan and remaining garaged in Michigan until 2005
3. The car has had one complete repaint in 2008
4. It has had 3 previous owners.
5. Comes with both build sheets and detailed mileage log from 1974 to 1986.
6. Original drivetrain was a 400 "T" Code with dual exhaust

Its FAST transformation is fairly well documented here. As always I am glad to answer questions.

http://transamcountry.com/community/...?topic=54768.0

Asking Price is $45,000.00 or would consider a 1973-1974 Super Duty Trans Am or Formula in trade. The car will be at Norwalk this year on Friday and Saturday making a few passes.

If I stuck SD455 decals on the shaker of my 74 400, would that work?

Seriously - great looking car - good luck with the sale.

I think you're off your rocker, Jay!

This is an incredible deal for someone. Jay does great work- I'm sure he's got more in it than what he's asking. Where else are you going to get a show winning restoration... that runs 10s on WideOvals?!?!

Jay, good luck with the sale (I wish I could purchase it).

How's the decal holding up?

Thanks Guys!

Here is some FAST info and the rules the car is built by.

www.fastraces.org

http://www.fastraces.org/members/fas...5!OpenDocument

Build sheet

Oil change decal in door

Oil change decal in door

The current FAST engine has a ton of development over the past 7 years. With 3 complete test engines and countless intakes, heads and exhaust manifolds we have learned a lot about what the 1974 L-75 455 wants and what it doesn't want. I am glad to share with the new owner the details of this engine but would rather not give away the farm in this thread.

However,I would like to thank those that made this combination happen. These guys are willing to look outside the box and then some.

1. Long Block- SD Performance
2. Cylinder Heads- SD Performance
3. Intake- Jon Kasse Engines, Wilson Manifolds, SD Performance,Cliff Ruggles
4. Carburetor- Cliff Ruggles
5. Distributor- Cliff Ruggles
6. Exhaust Manifolds -Ram Air Restorations and Greg Gessler
7. Transmission- Cliff Ruggles
8. Rear End- Andy Maner
9. Exhaust- Pypes Performance

****In my first post I made an error. After looking again at the build sheet the original engine is a "P" code 400 duel exhaust. My apologies.****

Mike,

The correct air cleaner decal still looks great !!

I have had a few questions about the original front seats, belts and roll bar.

1. I have stored the extremely nice original front seats that were removed from the car. The front seats that are in the car are modified to accept a 5 point harness and lightened.
2. I have the original seat belts to the car as well.
3. The roll bar in the car is completely custom to FAST rules and to the car. It is 100% bolt- in using the factory bolt holes in the car so their is no damage to any part of the car. The only reason the bar/harness are in the car are NHRA rules when the 11.50 second barrier is broken. The bar comes out of the car in an hour or so. If necessary,I am happy to remove it prior to delivery and restore the complete stock look.

I would never remove the cage…this car looks soooo stock…only the cage shows at a second glance that this car must have potential…nicely done in that red color too…and i guess that chassis needs the extra reinforcement with all that torque bending it….

I have one question: Did you ever try to run it with an "open" air filter vs. the Ramair-system? Does it strangle or even aid the performance? There has been much debate over the years if these Ramair-systems are really effective or even detrimental to power. I guess at this level of performance you should know…i am asking because i have the Ramair-system on my 501 cui Formula.

I'll bet it's more effective than any of the pre-'71 GTO RA setups and all but the '69 TA setups...because of the placement of the air inlets.

Actually, the build is so new I really have not tested anything. The only miles on the new build are on and off the trailor. The maryland event in the above video last Oct rained out early Saturday so not much testing there.

I hope to try a few things at Norwalk though.

I am truly amazed how they can make a car like this run so fast by just modifying the stock stuff....i mean as far as i have read the new Challenger Hellcat with 700+ hp has a trapspeed that is in this range...i mean what would this car run with better tires, headers and a modern 6-or 8-speed...?

I like the way the announcer on that run seems excited to talk about the '69 Roadrunner 440, Big block Mopar ' all the way from bla, bla, etc....then almost apologetically adds roughly 11 seconds later....'Got beat by a Pontiac'
Probably taken out of context but it's kinda funny to listen to.

I like the way the Formula demonstrated brutal efficiency: No big smoke, no big noise...it just pulls and pulls...
