Default Aw, crud, choke pulloff...

Was replacing the vacuum line from the choke pulloff on front of the carb and the front cover popped off the plastic pulloff. Now I can't snap it back on. Does anyone know the part# for a replacement? Quite a few on Amazon.com. Also, how do you remove it?

Any chance I can still start/drive the car w/o the pulloff attached?

Car is 68 GP w/ 400 and factory 4-bbl Qjet

Car will chug and blow black smoke for a few minutes but once choke is kicked off the pull off makes no difference anyway.

Anyone know how to remove the pulloff? Doesn't seem to be any screws holding it on. It is a Qjet #7028262. White plastic pull-off module. Seems all the brackets are riveted on to the carb (??)

Also, will it work if I put the two halves back together and seal it all around with strong tape (at least temporarily)? I wonder if it would seal enough to hold vacuum. I was thinking of using strong clear plastic packing tape.

One more thing I am curious about, why is the short vacuum line from pulloff attached to a ported vacuum source? Isn't it supposed to work at idle?

You just sort of pry it loose, it’s press fit. Don’t try to bend out the metal tabs holding it, they break easy.

looks like there is a tiny teeny clip holding the pull off rod to the mechanism how does that come off? Looks like it will get lost eeasily since it is suspended above the intake valley pan.

Strange as it was doing the chug/lost of smoke thing before the housing fell apart. Maybe it was already broken a little, hard to tell. Every window in my apt. complex must be opening, due to the extreme shakiness, loud flowmaster mufflers, and the smoke coming out the back.

When you first start it shakes and shudders and then stalls after about 5 seconds. Then won't start until you un-flood it by holding the gas pedal to the floor. Then it runs very shaky and unsteady and chugging for about 2 or 3 minutes until it gradually smooths out, sometimes stalling again. Every time it stalls I have to un-flood it again.

I checked the choke plate after about a minute while running shaky, and it was cracked open a little bit, but Im not sure if that means the pulloff was working or just that the choke had opened a little bit. How long does the pulloff do its thing? Also, if it stalls and I check the choke plate should the pulloff still have it cracked open a bit, even though the car is not running/stalled?

After its running for about 5 minutes and has smoothed out, everything is fine and it runs OK, no other issues.

The pull off is always activated whenever the car is running and it releases as soon as engine is not running. Even though it is activated after the engine is warmed up it’s irrelevant once the choke itself shuts off. You can still get therm at any auto parts. The alternative for now is to have someone to open the choke flaps a bit when you start it up

For the time being, will the car start OK if I open the choke slightly before starting, like doing the pulloff's job but before it starts? I wonder if that can be done. That way it's not jammed closed and flooding (and hopefully it's not something else causing the flooding)

Just curious, will it start if I open the choke slightly before starting, as in push the fast idle tab down 1 level so that the choke is open slightly? Kind of like doing the job of the pulloff without it working.?
