Default A Day at the Drag Strip

Atco Raceway this week, the weather didn't cooperate and items that I wanted to experiment with I never got to try. Hopefully I'll get back soon.

A conservative launch on whitewalls turned a best of 14.44 @ 98.75. Not what I was going for! I'd like to run 13.99 on those skinny tires.

Check out the video.

Cool! You're about out of weather for this year.... You'll need to practice speed shifting in the recliner this winter!

Cardo, it became so windy that trying to do anything became impossible.

Here's my automatic car.

It went 14.45 *@ 96 mph.

Only 100th slower than the manual trans GTO and it was quicker in the "short time" and 1/8th mile. Maybe the wind effected it because I raced it later in the afternoon when the weather changed for the worse.

Here are 2 short video's from the day.

Doggone it was windy! You'll probably get a couple of tenths just by losing the wind! Beautiful cars! Nice to see them out doing what they were meant for.

When we ran my 65, automatic (upgraded to turbo 350), stock engine rebuild on YR engine (factory tri power automatic engine) but with dual 4's instead of tri power. 3.55 safe-t-trac and cheater slicks, the best we ever ran was a 14.1 (IIRC). If we had shifted at 5200 instead of 4800 we might have gotten close to the 13's

I drove the car pretty gently considering I was trying for E.T :--)

Tach fell down from a loose screw so I just threw a rag under it just to make a pass.

NYGTO you need to join us at Island Dragway in New Jersey some time. This was our pit area for a test and tune on October 25th.

You'd get lower E.T. if you dumped the Herb Alpert "The Look of Love" and put on Ronny and the Daytona's "Little GTO".

Count me in, I'm all for a day at the track. So much the better with Pontiac's. Thank you for the heads up and there's some good events at Lebanon Valley Dragway if you're interested.

That's just light tongue-in-cheek humor I layered in. I think it's Burt Bacharach by the way. :--)

NYGTO - my hats off to you! I remember the black car from the Pypes show and GTO convention in Philly. A survivor if my memory is correct. Running on those tires must be interesting! So happy to see you running these beautiful cars on the strip. I hope to see the manual car sometime. We'll let you know when we head over to the Island. It's up in a little town (Great Meadows) in northern New Jersey.

OCMDGTO - my best, which I ran that day, is a 14.428 at 97.02. Street cornell radials, street tune with a fresh set of Autolite 85s and some octane boost in the tank. All three cars in the picture I posted have tri-power and 4-speeds. The turquoise tempest is forum contributor STRAYCAT.

Default Drag Day

Thank you very much and I'm looking forward to it!

Ironic how well the st-300 performs but the advantage is to the manual car of course.

Thanks again.
