Don't want to disclose details on battery situation.
Sometimes i manage to get a string pulled.

I jumped on all those Clearance Deals immediately because i knew they would get gone in a hurry.
No time to weigh pro's and con's - then go back to empty shelves.

They told me in direct answer in person at Lowes that i could buy any chainsaw - AND even use it for up to 30 days - and still be returnable. There were even labels on the shelves that stated that. So i confirmed.
Craftsman was actually 90 days.
I guess Lowes Defacto and the Manufacturers really want to get these things into peoples hands.

So once in my possession, i now had 30 days to weigh and decide.

I'm going to guess after a couple or few came back in used condition, they would put the brakes on you, and you might get stuck with one of them eventually.
idunno

I never cut anything with any of them that i returned though.
That really seems too indulgent for my morals and conscience.
Even though i could have indulged

Used my friends 18" 80V Kobalt and saw what it would do.
That took care of that.
I kept the 5Ah i bought and returned the 2Ah - unused.

Also used his 16" 60V GreenWorks and saw how it performed and handled.
Explained earlier why i didn't keep the 16" GreenWorks.
Returned it un-used.

The 12" Craftsman was only 20 Volts, but was such a great deal at $71 - i grabbed one anyway.
Charged it and did some dry runs and wanted to keep it, sort of.
But decided it would be like a token saw - and i dont need any token saws.
Returned it un-used (per-se')

Bought a 14" Kobalt 40V - but realized after getting it home it didn't have a Chain Brake. Returned it un-used.

Now in all the travels and dealings with 5 different Lowes stores, i made some acquaintances. I did get some strings pulled on a couple few deals along the way.
Its too much to type and i didn't include all those details on purpose.

The dust mostly seems settled now on all my power equipment adventures.
I got $910 in retail value including tax - for $442 including tax.
2 Saws and a Hedger, works out to about $147 each on the overall average including tax.
Very Satisfied

Very interested in this. Never heard of buying a coupon, in order to get a store discount. Please provide more info/links/etc. I'm especially interested in any discount I might could get on items that have to be ordered.
Just go to eBay
Advanced Search
*be sure to select USA location sellers only*
type in "Lowes Coupon" or "Home Depot Coupon"
The Home Depot coupons are more plentiful and cheaper.
Lowes and HD do distribute these sparingly - i don't know how these people get these - but they work. And have feedback to prove it.

I printed mine out in Color on Good Paper.
No Probo - BINGO !

You cannot stack coupons, so you won't need any at Lowes with your 10% Military.
Thats great they allow the military discount online as well.

My 10% coupon was for In-Store Only
My Store Credit was for In-Store Only
The 14" EGO saw was not available in stores - had to be ordered Online.
That required another "string-pull" , but i pulled it off.

If someone needs that info, i could share that one, but can't guarantee that just anybody can walk into any Lowes and get the same result with just any clerk.

Default Lowes Online Military Discount

Well, I ran into a snag.

Googled the Lowes military discount, for online purchases. Did just as they said. Logged into my Lowes account. Filled out all the required info. Clicked "submit".

Notice came up saying that the info submitted did not match the info they had. Said I had only one more chance to resubmit the correct info.

Decided I'd better try to talk to a living person. No luck. They closed at 6pm my time.

Will give 'em a call early tomorrow & see if I can get thru to someone who can help me.

Had no trouble at all signing up for the discount, at my local store, for in-store purchases.

May find out that the discount will not apply to whatever saw I order, for some strange reason, like "It's already on sale", or "It's already discounted", or "This has a special volume purchase discount", or some other feeble excuse to make 10% more profit. Anyhow, I'll try to get the discount, then see if it'll apply to a purchase, before pulling the trigger. No big hurry on this one.

PS: This has nothing to do with Lowes. In looking at lots of saws, I ran across a 100 Volt unit. It was a Sun Joe brand. Has a 1500 watt motor. Assuming that's a powerful engine ? Can you find the watt rating of the engine, on most saws ? Is this something to consider when determining the power output. Or, is it more dependent on the battery ?

https://www.homedepot.com/p/Sun-Joe-...B&gclsrc=aw.ds

2.5 Ah batt is $209. 5.0 Ah batt is $299.

Lowes is really good on returns.
And going to say the very best place to buy a chainsaw.

If you need to see touch and feel several saws , you can order them all and take them home and have 30 days to decide what you like best.
They will hold for up to 7 days after they arrive, maybe longer if you stayed in contact.

You just have to be able to put up all the money in advance.
You'll get refunded on all returns.

Actually, they don't pull the funds from debit/credit card until you take possession at the counter. They do place a pending charge in hold on the card that will show in your ledger balance at the time of order.

You might could decide at the counter or out in the parking lot what you wanted to keep. And not have to make another trip back to the store.

Have only seen wattage mentioned a couple times on these battery power saws.
Looked at lots of them too online and in the stores.
There may be a way to compute the wattage on them all.
I have been going mostly by chain speed to gauge performance levels.
mps - i think it means meters per second.
Lowes seems to list it on them all (mps)
Walmart gives pretty good spec rundowns too.
HD seems to be less detailed on the amount of specs.

Consumer reviews are something i really look into as well.
A lot of the negative/low star reviews are probably folks who wear loafers because they cant tie shoestrings. But when a tool has 4.2 to 5 star overall its doing a good job. Under 4 stars overall it would need to be drastically Clearance priced to consider.

Have seen the Sun Joe brand on most all the websites.
Just can't warm up to it.
It's like one or two steps up from Harbor Freight - imo

Default Sun Joe

It's a name I'm not familiar with. On the HD site, the first page of Sun Joe products get 4 stars on most every product.

Seems the brand is more known for the Snow Joe snow blowers.

Default Lowes Credit Card

Saw that you can get 5% off if you buy with their credit card. Hoping that maybe it will work, even when the 10% vet discount won't.

Also, you can supposedly get 20% off of your 1st purchase with the card. Don't have a clue if that will work on a saw ordered online, or not. Anyhow, there's no annual fee & no interest, if you pay off the balance each month.

The interest rate is 26.99%. So, I won't be making any small monthly payments on it. Just hope to possibly save a few bucks each year, with it. If it won't apply on any purchase where the vet discount won't work, then it won't be much good. But hey, if it turns out to be totally useless, I can always just cancel it, or just not use it.

You're getting into the zone now with the discount program.
It might be possible that the 5% My Lowes deal with their credit card - will stack with your Military 10%. I would definitely ask about that.

20% on first order would be super cool too.
As long as a saw you want isnt Clearance, "new price markdown", or a limited time reduced price ... it should work.

There is another Lowes coupon available that is a sweet deal too (eBay) for lower purchases. $20 off $100
If you wanted something that was $99 , just toss in a pair of $3-4 gloves to get over $100.

Randomly there is another one they offer that is 20% Online or In Store.
They all have short expiration dates.

Default Lowes Online Military Discount

Called customer service & explained my deal. She gave me an Email address & told me to send all my military info to it. Said they'd take it from there.

So, TJ sent all the info. Got a message back, asking for some kind of info that had nothing to do with the discount.

Mainly said they were real busy & would get back to me when they could.

Not really expecting to hear back from them today. Why should they be in a hurry to make less profit from my online purchases.

Yeah, I thought about you, when I saw the track Zeta was supposed to take, & then they reported so many power outages.

Guessing there are lots of guys gonna have to break out their saw.

I think there are also several members here that live in Alabama. Probably also lots of trees down, in Mississippi.

Sorry about that Greg, hope they get you fixed up real quick.

I haven't been following the weather this week and got caught off guard today around 10:30-11:00am with bionic wind gusts coming in from this way - then that way - then the other way ! With high frequency

I have had 5 Pop-Up Canopy Shelters set up all summer.
Anchored and tied down solid, no problems until today.
By the time i could get them lowered down / fabric off top - 1 had heavy damage, 2 with medium damage, 2 came out okay.
Of course it was raining too

still getting strong heavy gusts but becoming less and less consecutive, and not bionic

Default Greenworks

Got an Email today about my recall claim on my Kobalt saws.

It was from customer service at Greenworks Tools Canada Inc.

The actual Email address was csr@sunrisetools.ca

Therefore, I suppose there is some sort of connection between Greenworks & Kobalt.

No telling how many brands that company is involved with. Guessing that the guts of lots of different brands are exactly the same, made in the same mfg facility. But I've noticed that every brand seems to have their own battery, which is the only batt that will fit that brand/model. And, most batts cost nearly as much or even more than the bare tool. So, I suppose the plan is to make extra money selling batts, after the tool is bought.

Don't know how many generic batts are sold. I think generics for some Greenworks batts are the only ones I noticed, on Ebay. May be some sort of law that prevents generic batts for some brands.

Lowes must be ramping up for chainsaw season now.
That 14" 40V SKIL had been listed as unavailable all along, but now it can be ordered online. I'd still rather have the EGO in the 14" or 16" categories.

And my store now shows 3 of the EGO 14" saws in stock.
They must have gotten some right after mine came in.
It was previously only available online.

Maybe they will have the 16" EGO listed on their site soon.

I am hoping they come out with a Gen2 on the big 18" Kobalts.
Their webpage i had saved for the 5Ah model no longer exists.
The 2Ah model webpage still works and still showing $269
At minimum hopefully they keep the 80V line-up alive so that the batteries are still available for years to come.

That is wild to get an email from GreenWorks , about the Kobalts !

Just talked to my Dad in Greensboro, NC
his back-up generator system has been running all afternoon.
He is about 30 miles north of me.
Your girl Zeta must be putting the hurt on a lot of folks if its knocking out power all the way into mid-NC !

Our power will probably be out for at least the weekend. Went out and purchased a generator yesterday. At least we can save the food in the fridge and deepfreeze, have some lights and TV...using the antenna..no satellite or wi-fi. Should have done it years ago. We go through this seems every 7 or 8 years but this one is going to be down a bit longer than normal I fear. We're on a well so the biggest hassle is no running water. At some point I'll wire it into the panel and that'll fix that.
It's all good though! No one hurt.

on a whim
weighed my Kobalt 18" 80volt 5Ah Chainsaw today on the digital scale.

17 pounds with battery charged and installed .
Saw with Scabbard = 11lbs
5Ah Battery = 6lbs
{standard building brick with 3 holes = 3.8 pounds}

The 15.2 pounds Lowes was listing them at must just be for the model with the 2Ah Battery.
They had both versions listed at that same 15.2 weight.

Yeah, I wouldn't wanna do a lot of limbing with it. I'll reserve it for the big stuff & do the light work with smaller saws. Did some more light work with my recalled Kobalt 12" chain saw & 8" pole saw, today. Both worked great.

Still lookin at saw reviews & videos.

Thinkin more now about cheapin out & going with the WEN. It's only about $160 + tax. So, if my Lowes credit card will give me 20% off my first purchase with it, that'll make the total cost, with tax, less than $150.

https://www.lowes.com/pd/WEN-40-Volt...ger/1003266220

The WEN gets good reviews.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/reviews/B0711Z1VSX

Going by the videos, it's not anywhere near as fast as the Echo or EGO. But then, I'm not in an big hurry. Not gonna cut a load of firewood. Just clearing trails, & along our dirt/gravel road/driveway, & around the edge of our property.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ul5GgdXQsdA

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-_X0ibOueJI

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Om2JOFufDUk

This one has some weird music, so if you watch you might wanna mute the sound.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ROmID9rBno

This guy said his WEN didn't leak oil, like most saws do.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bcBA41H7L_A

Looks like this guy needed to tighten the chain a bit.

Can relate to the economic factors
I didn't plan to spend much, it just grew as it went.
And the deals were sugar sweet

We can find goods & bads on all of them.
Think i would just try to stay with Lowes so you know you can bail out clean if within 30 days the saw doesn't meet expectations.

The WEN is priced RIGHT
so here's my rub on it -
Don't like the chain speed - most all good ones are 60+ feet per second (20+ meters) no matter what size bar/chain,
the warranty is weak,
and its said to be loud enough to need hearing protection by the measured decibels.
I went with a rule of thumb a 14" should be at least 40volts and 16" be 60volts (or 56 or 58).
But it is the low cost leader

There's a lot of value too between a 2yr warranty and a 5yr warranty

With a 20% discount , the more you spend the more you save.
On a 40volt saw - that Red SkiL really looks to be the best money spent.
175 + tax with your discount
... and it's a dadblame SkiL saw ! by golly
too cool

Order 2 or 3 different ones at the same time @ 20% 0ff on that new credit card and take the ones back that don't win.
Sort of like what i did

Will do some more research on the Skil. Haven't read much about it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qTMwNHlGggY

https://www.protoolreviews.com/skil-...ainsaw-review/

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oMel_sECE8o

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HELi_EFNaPU

Haven't found any good videos of it, in action.

Here's 3 bad reviews on Amazon. But there seem to always be a few, on every brand. I reckin there are a few duds in any large batch of cordless saws.

https://www.amazon.com/product-revie...ews-filter-bar

Lowes only has the good reviews. The saw only came out last year. So there are not many reviews to read.

https://www.lowes.com/pd/SKIL-SKIL-P...Kit/1002752376

Saw some good videos about 40v Greenworks. Then saw a video where one quit.

Don't know about the WEN warranty. A brand new saw is only about $80. Most bare saws are at least $150. Many are $200 or more. The WEN batts are also about $80. Lots of brands are $125 & UP, if they have 4 Ah or more. If you go ONLY by price, the WEN should be junk. BUT, they get good reviews & seemed to do OK in the videos.

If I spend more & don't get a really good one, I'll always wonder if the WEN is any good, or just junk.

I started looking closer at a Ryobi. It was said that they cut fast because of high chain speed. But, LOTS of guys posted about how much oil they leak. They say that Ryobi tells 'em they all leak & that they should drain the oil after every use. I definitely don't wanna have to do that. I don't mind a small leak. My little storage building has a wood floor. So a little oil will just help preserve the wood.
