'2000 Grand Prix Rust Below Gas Filler Door
Anyone with a solution to this problem? My 2 door Grand Prix is beginning to show rust bubbles under the paint in the area below the gas filler and top of the wheel well. Is there any way to get access to this area for repair? Also, the gas door hinge/spring is not tight and allows the door to move up or down in the frame which is chipping the paint. Can the door be removed for repair without major work? I know of several '97-'03 GP's in a local junk yard that would provide the parts needed.

Dick,
I can't help you with any back access tips for the 1/4 for a 2 door, But I know how to remove the gas cap door on a 97-02 GP. You have to remove the plastic filler panel behind the door, and then you have to drill out 2 rivets on the front side of the hinge, at the forward edge of the door. They are visible with the door opened. After that you just have to work the door/hinge loose. I have removed it from a 98 & 99 GP's, but they were both 4-doors, so it may very a little. The only other thing you may run into is gas tank filler neck clearance, you may have to loosen up the gas tank for more clearence to remove the plastic filler panel. Good luck with it!!!
