The TA looks gr8. Summer is around the corner. We have been enjoying our 80 TA 4bbl for 28 years. Like you said it's a little underpowered but makes a nice cruiser. Enjoy the new toy.

Great looking car! I think white is the best colour for a trans am. I suppose 'fast' is a relative term. I think way too many people get sidetracked by hp ratings (this may be a blasphemous statement on a car forum). I for one do not think that every car needs 700 of them to be worthy. If the car runs good and will cruise down the road safely and stops when its supposed to, then its doing its job. Dont get me wrong I like to know that I can stomp on the gas and pass the car in front if need be but one certainly doesn't need to 'race' every where they go.
My brother lives in Peterborough and calls that stuff 'solid moisture', lol. |

He is very active in the vrma ( I think that's what its called), vintage motorcycle racing. He was racing a 1935 Rudge. I am sure he knows a few guys that are mechanical. I will shoot him a text and see if anything should cross. Maybe a car guy amongst their bunch that either knows or knows someone.

looks nice. nothing wrong with a low power car like the tta's. horse power is nice but for normal street cruising these cars are great, get decent mpg & when dialed in right they will hang with any 76-78 400/455 t/a's. they were rated at the same 220 hp at a 78/79 w72 ta.

I have heard from several folks, they can run fairly well. Ol PinionHead has/had one, ran well. He's up on what it takes.
I test drove a new 81 turbo TA. Mostly because it was silver. I wanted a silver 77, but has no choice, am happy with a black one!! The test drive didn't go well. I even put some of my own gas $$$ in it, to make sure the engine was warmed up. It wouldn't pull the hat off your head. I had no interest in something like that!!!

I have a low mile 1980 turbo bandit, 100% stock with the factory catalytic converter. It runs amazingly well but it’s not fast as none of these cars from that era in truly stock form are fast. I was not old enough to buy one new but when the opportunity arose I bought one in like new condition and it had to be stock. These cars are cruisers not race cars, drive it and enjoy.

I bought an 80 pace car new and almost immediately yanked the motor and tranny out and replaced it with a nicely built 400 and turbo 400. surprised the crap out of a lot of guys in their musclecars. only give away was my tag said
DCEIVER . I had a friend back then that was a mechanic and he had one that he did all kinds of stuff to the engine , trans and rear end car looked bone stock but would run 13's . I always wanted to put a 4 speed manual trans behind one and see if that wouldn't lite it up a bit. |

The person I bought it from was a friend. THe car had been his sisters, and was wrecked (in the end). He told me he had driven the car a few times. When it was running correctly, it ran pretty good. But it had to be worked on too often to get it into the "good" running mode. Of course all the work had to be done at a dealer...
