Default Who makes correct Deluxe interior?

I went to a car show recently and there were two 78 T/A's both restored beautifully. Both had deluxe interior, one had the proper doeskin grain and one did not and the one that did not wasn't even close.

So, the question is who makes a quality seat cover the proper grain?

Al Knoch?
PUI?
Legendary?

Not sure about the grain of the material but Legendary stuff is better than pui by far. I have no idea whom this Al Knoch is.

If you can get a local upholstery shop to do the labor, I would like to believe that SMS would have the correct fabric.

Maybe not...here is the link:

I ordered deluxe door panels and seat covers from Legendary. I talked with them about 3 weeks ago and said my order should be shipped to my door anytime. Once they get here I'll let you know how the quality is. Including pics.

This will be for a 1978 Y88 with the Camel Tan Lombardy seats.

I also sent my dash to Al Knoch through Second Gen Graveyard. It should also be here at anytime.

Fabric deluxe seat upholstery for '78's were a combination of crushed & uncrushed Lombardy cloth. 10-15 years ago, Fryers was the go to shop to have this style of seatcovers recreated with NOS fabric. Fryers was also doing a killer job on the '79 & 80 hobnail seat upholstery. Believe they were in Oregon or Washington state.

Sourcing NOS fabric materials. Have bought nos fabrics numerous times from SMS by the running yard. Those of us that live near large cities can often access large auto trim suppliers that have all the original trim books & occasionally have yardage of corrsct original vinyls & fabrics. It's worth ck'ing numerous of these huge trim shops if going the NOS materials route.

I have the '76 Deluxe interior in my '77 all made by Legendary. Overall, quality was excellent. Would use PUI as a last resort. Al Knoch makes good stuff for Vettes. No experience with them for Pontiac parts.

Interesting. My 77 was built week 3 sept, '76. It also originally had a deluxe 76 interior. Also have 76 window switch. What is the build date on your car?

With new upholstery, another thing to consider is the time frame. I spoke to Legendary about door panels in Nov or Dec and their projected delivery was this coming June. It may be quicker to get a local trim shop.

Mine originally had the basic standard interior. I was aiming for S&B screen accuracy with my car. Changed the visors, tach, door pulls/panels, and seats to '76 MY parts. I did not switch the seat belts/escutcheons to the '76 parts.

As far as I know, there is no correct crushed velour Lombardy cloth being produced today. All that I've seen is the non-crushed velour being used. You'd think that someone would reproduce the crushed velour since it was used in 78 and in 79 for the bolsters on the Hobnail seat covers.

There should be a good market for it given the large number of cars produced, the increasing popularity of late 70s Firebirds and the fact that the cloth seat covers didn't hold up well due to the sun exposure, especially in T top cars.

You gotta look around, I found 7 yds of camel Lombardy. And it ain’t cheap.
That trim shop up by port Huron had a real close Lombardy. I wanted nOS GM though.

This thread went off the rails... The original post mentions "Doeskin" and we somehow got on to Lombardy.

I had an issue with Legendary’s Lombardi cloth, totally unacceptable in my eyes. I was able to locate the original Lombardi cloth and had another set of seat made by legendary. Paid twice!.
Now the interior is 100% perfect, just like it was 1980 all over again.
