Default Nice 69 convertible on Hemmings Auctions...

Always been partial to parchment interiors and appears to be a nicely done car that shows very well with a 4 speed . Should be interesting to watch.

Yes it is a pretty color but the paint on the car is nowhere near correct for
Crystal Turquoise........nowhere near enough green in the paint. The car also features
the front bumper with the middle pushed way back at the bottom, and of course the obligatory
upside down exhaust tips.

Wow, the seller has owned it since 2019. I wouldn’t call that a selling point.

Nice car but I agree with gtohurstjudge that the color is way off. Also those awful headrest covers… yuk!

Why do so many people add a passenger side mirror? Filling the holes and matching the paint would be pain, but it needs to be done. Also, the stance is way too high.

I know the passenger side mirror was never a factory option but the dealers were adding them. As long as the mirror is a correct mirror I find it looks ok. That is if the car doesn’t have a remote mirror on the driver side. Can’t stand the look of two different mirrors on one car!

Same here. The different look of the passenger side non remote mirror vs the drivers remote always bothered me as well and I never installed one.

Thumbs up

Thanks for posting this link as I always enjoy looking at the pictures. It's a nice car for sure and with a few more touches would be awesome.

From the provided photos, I don't think it can be determined that the front bumper center is pushed in at the bottom. The photos of the front are taken with a wide angle lens on the camera. where angles get exaggerated. Even the side ends of the bumper look pushed in at the bottom and we know they can't be. Also the gap at the top center to hood normally gets too wide when the bottom is pushed in. The gap on this car looks pretty good. To really make a determination, we would need to see photos taken with a normal focal length taken at a height more in line horizontally with the front bumper.

I just looked at the picture of the VIN Stamp in the block. It's the most even and clearly stamped VIN I have ever seen.

Very good points on the photography comments. Pretty easy to run a car down here. Granted it has its flaws but still is a beauty. My guess is this car is better than most of the cars owned by the people ripping on it here.

I don't see one post ripping this car. I think ever person said they like it. pointing out flaws isn't to rip that car, its how we all get better at restoring our cars.

I'm wondering if the color looks a bit off because the sun is not shining on the car? I drive a crystal turquoise 69 GTO and the color does seem to change some when the light hits it. Sometimes it looks more blue and sometimes it has a more "green" tint to it when it is in the sunlight or in a well lit shop. Would be interesting to see the car up close.

I love this kind of thread where very knowledgeable people point out mistakes or flaws. That helps me avoid the same mistakes.

My contribution would be ... why go to the trouble to put on all the reproduced paper tags and labels on a car with obvious non-period aftermarket exhaust, radiator, gauges etc.?

But yes, a very nice car, nicer than mine will ever be. But then I've owned mine for 45 years

EXACTLY. We all can appreciate how nice a car this IS while sharing observations about the "correctness" of a car/component. Pointing out a non-standard/non-correct attribute does not constitute "ripping on" the car but can serve to help educate forum members

Observations for purists:
  • Gas tank painted black (should be stainless)
  • Rear sway bar - incorrect for this year
  • 3 gauges under dash
  • Aluminum radiator
  • Ride height too high
  • (note 5th picture of interior showing an earlier picture with Hurst T-handle shifter and no gauges)
  • Exhaust tips installed upside down
  • Wrong Power Brake vacuum booster
  • Brake Master not painted black
  • Wrong ignition coil
  • Power Steering mount painted black (is aluminum)
  • Firewall finish appears too shiny
  • Hood Latch painted black instead of Cad plated
And maybe there are other "not correct" items, but my point was not to criticize a beautiful car for items that appear nice but may not be "original".

One thing I've always kinda kept in the back of my mind. When someone is doing what appears to be a concours type restoration, and obvious errors are made that wouldn't take much research at all to get correct. Maybe it's just me, but I often have the nagging feeling that perhaps this level of work ethic was also used in mechanical areas of the restoration that would much less obvious.

At the very least it often appears in these cases that the restorer was not a "Pontiac Person", and perhaps not familiar with all the little mechanical details that make a reliable, proper performing Pontiac.

And I only feel this way about cars that are obviously being turned over quickly and have all the typical "visual cues" that attract the casual deep pocket buyers. Long time owners, non- commercial restorers etc. they often have a mish-mash of things that make them happy and often do work where time and money are not a consideration, so regardless of "correctness" it's done extremely well.
