Best Way to adjust new lifters, 65-389 hydraulics
Just finished putting in new set of stock 389 hydraulic lifters. Need some advice on easiest and best way to adjust, motor running maybe ??

is the valley pan off? put the lifter on the other side of the cam lobe, tighten your poly lock until you see the plunger bearly move, then set your preload.
This is my first choice. 2nd is while it's running, but it gets messy. |

There is no adjustment on stock Pontiac V8 lifters. Tighten the rocker arm retaining nuts to 25 lb. ft. and you're done.

Ascertain if your valvetrain set up is all stock. If so, adjust according to Dick Boneske's suggestion. Otherwise, convert to an adjustable valve train via BB chevy studs and adjust as suggested by 74Grandville. Plenty of info on ths topic at your fingertips (search).

If you use poly locks with allen adjustment..............
