Default Starting engine detail

Finally got around to starting the engine compartment detail on my 65 GP. Plans are to add the GTO chrome valve covers and air cleaner. More pics to come.

Jerry, hope you have been enjoying driving the GP the past few months. It is a very good looking car. The GP interiors have all the style in the world.

Actually it's been sitting in my shop waiting on my friend Mike to get some time to help. With this arm that's permanently broken I don't even have the strength to turn a ratchet! It's going to be a slow go waiting on him. I tell him what to do and he does pretty good.

Engine is painted, reassembly started. I'll get everything except the fan assembled, then wrap it up and start refinishing the firewall, inner fenders, radiator support, etc. I'm on the downhill roll!

Looks great. Did you pull your power steering pump off to paint? I would have had paint all over the place if I tried to paint in the engine bay.

Before you bolt down the valve covers don't forget to switch them. oil cap on the passenger side.

I agree; but with my experience owning and restoring these cars for over 40 years now, my research shows (plus the low mile original cars that I've owned) shows that the oil cap was on the passenger side EXCEPT on cars with air conditioning.

Not a big deal anyway as chrome valve covers were not offered on 65 GP's with the 389 engine.

Alternator, pulley and fan plus a few touch ups and it'll be ready to reinstall the hood and DRIVE!

Well, except for bolting the hood up, I'm finished. Not to bad for a cripple whose right arm is broken and uses his cane with his left hand. It's not 100%,

Looks great, Jerry. Factory or not, the chrome valve covers LOOK GOOD!!

That engine compartment didn't look that good from the factory!
