Fuel Pump Rebuild
Does anyone have a recommendation for a rebuilder of fuel pumps? I have the original fuel pump from the Red Car that has been replaced with an Airtex, and I would like to get the original overhauled and reinstalled.
As an alternative, I would like to buy an NOS 40931 fuel with the AC logo. If anyone has one they would consider selling please send me a PM or text me at 304.859.7509. Thanks, BWB |

I just took a shower recently under my fuel pump. The "crimp seal" on the edges couldnt handle the alcohol in the fuel. I am lucky my spark plug wires are good. Be sure if you do this it has newer style seals and can handle alcohol. PS, this was an NOS pump installed in 2004 that I bought when it was NOT old stock in 1978. So 12 years and probably 5? with alcohol gas. It hasnt worked well for the 5 years either, pumping was weak. ( it got recycled) .Do the homework when buying or rebuilding. ( Obviously these were never meant to be rebuilt)

I had heard these were unserviceable?

I don't think they're rebuildable because of the way they're sealed/crimped.

Here's an older thread. I wonder if Arthur Gould got anything going?
CitrusZ seems to point to a place called Dated Components http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...d.php?t=753020 This is the best I can find on Dated Components so far. They don't list fuel pumps in the text, but there is a picture of a fuel pump on this page which looks like the crimped style like ours. http://www.classicjunkyard.com/datedcomponents/ .

Thought I would pass this along....
My car has been running the same Carter M6122 since 1988. I have noticed a change in fuel delivery. I have not made a test pipe to check fuel pressure, but my intuition and my wide band meter tells me the 10% ethanol has almost killed the pump internals. It goes a little lean under light load acceleration and way lean under WOT. I did a little reading and Carter Fuel Pump Division (now owned by Federal Mogul) started replacing their previous rubber diaphragms & check valves on their mechanical pumps along with the in tank electric pumps with "Nitrile Rubber" back in 2009 to stop pump failure from the added blend of 10% ethanol fuel including the Flex E-85 fuels that are being used in today’s vehicles. That is good news to me providing I can buy a new pump with a fairly recent manufacture date from the parts stores or Summit, Jegs, etc. I'll be buying a new pump and exploring all my other rubber fuel connections. I already have my carburetor in good shape with rubber parts from Cliff.

I'm very curious how long our OEM pumps will last with this crappy ethanol fuel. Now what?

some fuel pump makers are mentioning they are using updated material for the fuel.

Just put an NOS on my Formula. I guess I should be expecting issues to come?

I understand that some states do not require ethanol in premium grade fuels;
I also have understood that Shell has taken a strong stance AGAINST using ethanol blends in their premium fuel - to the point of pulling out of some areas in protest... I will do my best to try to avoid any fuels with ethanol in them... So the simple solution seems to be, to look for providers which offer fuels without ethanol.

I consider myself luck, ethanol is not required in Canada, and where I live is quite relaxed on emissions devices/equipment - as an example, I haven't run a catalytic converter on my daily driver in many years.

yeah, with all of our trees and undisturbed wildlife... was are very bad people...
/\ /\ the problems with graphs like that is that they are intended to show one angle; if you take into account the forested areas, which are essentially oxygen machines, it' greatly lessens our C02 emmissions.

These are pics of the fuel pump that came on my 70 TA. I thought is was after market, but I think I am wrong. Is this the correct original style fuel pump? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

It's a big can pump. There are different versions of this pump, with different in and out placements. The 70 version is no longer made. If u do a search there are threads on the different fuel pumps
