Default 67 GTO dash gloss 60°

I've read the dash should be 60° gloss for the dash. 0° on the upper side (and suede finish).

60° is considered full gloss correct? 30° would be a semi gloss?

30 is satin, and 60 is semi-gloss. I've always thought of them as a percentage
(not sure it goes to 100 though). Gloss would create distracting reflections.

I think I agree with you. I wish it was easier to do all this, everything seems so suggestive. Maybe someone simply knows the paint code for the semi-gloss black on the dash

I found this:
Flat (1–9% gloss)Low Sheen (10–25% gloss)Eggshell (26–40% gloss)Semi Gloss (41–69% gloss)Gloss (70–89% gloss)

So after visiting with my body guy he feels the face of the dash and all parchment paint was likely a full gloss when originally sprayed in lacquer from the factory and the lack of polishing is what would give it a look of less gloss and of course flatten over time. His feeling is that GM probably wouldn't have kept big batches of paint strictly for the interior pieces since efficiency on the assembly line was the focus. He might have a point, I am curious what others might think.

Since it appears that the parchment was actually cameo ivory, then it seems it would make sense further that it would be the exact same paint that they were spraying on the exterior which would be a gloss finish. Then the dash was probably the same starlight black they would use on the exterior of the car.

Thoughts?

I’m sorry but your body man is incorrect. The top of the dash closest to the windshield would be 0° gloss the windshield pillars, tops of the door and the front facing portion of the dash would be 60° gloss. Do yourself a big favor and pick up copy of the Pontiac GTO restoration guide 1964–1972. It will quickly answer a lot of these technical specific questions.

Yes, we know the upper is 0 gloss actually a suede finish. In fact it's the same used on the dash bezel.

I've had the book for years, still seems to be some misinformation out there

You’re correct there is a lot of miss information and miss understood information that’s why I suggested using the book it is an actual re-print from the service manual. 0° gloss is not suede just flat.

I was thinking the same thing. Seems the rattle can companies use the names interchangeably for the same paint. I use a lot of Rustoleum satin rattle can paint from Lowes and it is the best looking semi gloss I've found.

I spent sometime doing some research and there is a difference on the gloss levels and it extends to other BOP and even Chevy vehicles which makes sense. We are shooting automotive paint and I just want it as close to original as possible. The black turns out to be the same (at least in DuPont and R-M) as the exterior. The parchment has its own code although Cameo Ivory is very close. I am going to bring the codes to the paint shop to see if we can cross it or I will try TCP Global and see what they can do.

Krylon used to have about 4-5 different shades of black but the dropped that old line and the new line has fewer. I found some of the older line online but they did not look as different.
