62 GP Hurst Shifter ( w/center console)
I know this has been discussed before, but on a 62 GP with console has anyone installed the Hurst shifter 3917308? It's the only shifter for 62 GP with BW transmission, It states w/o console. Has anyone used this shifter with a 62 GP w/console? Does it work and fabrication needed?

This is the 3917308 shifter installed in my bench seat '61 Bonneville:
As far as I know, the shifter on a bucket seat car sticks up through the floor in the same spot, the differences are the shape of the shift porch and the shape of the lever itself (the stock lever on bucket seat cars is straighter.) This is a bucket seat porch: These are bench seat porches: |

Hmm...
Can you clarify this? Also WHO (what documentation?) said it's the ONLY shifter w/ BW transmission... the only HURST shifter or the ONLY shifter? Only, be it at the final assembly plant or dealer or anywhere or...?

Here is the instruction sheet from the original Hurst shifter that I installed in my GP in the 60s. It shows the shape of the handle.

Thanks for posting instructions from Hurst. When I contacted Hurst, they told me that the shifter 3917308 is the only one they have listed for 62 GP that they make today. On the listing it states w/o console. No one at Hurst could tell me what the difference is, or what if/any modifications need to be made to make 3917308 work in my car.

Sadly, I no longer have that car, and the shifter went with it. But I do recall that the shifter was curved, not straight. And I also believe that it was not bent to the side. I'm wondering if the overall length of the handle was different.
Does anyone know if the seat height is different between the bench and buckets? At least I kept the original GM shifter and have it on the car I have now. |

where is the part number located on the shifter. I just purchased one from a fellow py member a couple months back and he said it came from a 62gp w/console he once owned.

The number is stamped on the left side of the shifter body

The shifter from my '62 Cat is a 427092. It's the old one piece style Hurst (not the bolt on handle)
