Default 70 GTO Washer Nozzle Bolts

Repop 70 GTO hood, trying to mount the washer nozzles, and am not clear on how they are attached or with what type of bolt.

The holes in the hood seem large, and due to the cavity, the bolts can't be too long or will dimple the hood surface.

Anyone have a pic of the type of bolt used? Or how they are fastened to the hood?

I've never had to actually attach these in the past, always had hoods that already had them installed!

Here's a couple of pics for you, pulled these off of a 70 hood I just scrapped. The self tapping screws look like they're 1/8" dia. & 3/8" long.

IIRC 68, 69 & 70 all used different washers/attachment methods. I think 68 & 69 used 2 screws where 70 used one and a built in tang on the washer. It may be 68 that used square punched holes in the hood w/clips that snapped into the holes for the screws to tap into?

I'm not sure which year they modeled the repro after but you mentioned the holes were large..... if they're are square holes you'll need to get some clips also to snap in there. HTH!

Excellent, thank you gentlemen, that answers a lot of questions! MUCH appreciated!

So the repop hoods I believe just have 2 holes, and the repop washer nozzles are a little diff too. No biggie.

The attaching hardware, and how attached was a puzzle, and found it very difficult to locate specific info, this clears it up perfectly.

Now time to go diving into the bolt bucket! I don't think I sourced those types before, going to have to see if I have used ones.

Thanks a bunch again, love these forums!

EDIT: I will post some pics of the repop nozzles, just so there's a reference for others. Will have to do that tomorrow though...

So went thru a handful of bolts, nothing really seemed to work properly, and then took a closer look at the holes.

Here's the holes in the hood, which are square, and are .290 x .290" . So assume there is a plastic square insert?

I looked around the HELP! section in an auto parts store, saw some 1/4" square threaded inserts, but for some reason they were too large for the hole. (Guessing the denotation is for screw size)

So no closer to getting these mounted, and have found no repop place listing hardware. Anyone have any insight here?

So is the hood only supposed to have one square hole for the locating tab on the nozzle?

What have others done when using the repop hood?

I'm not at that point yet, but pretty sure there was a thread about this either here or in the Body Shop a while ago and someone said they found an insert that fit the square opening and would accept the factory screw. I cannot recall if the OP said it was a steel or plastic insert.

Something like this: https://www.imperialsupplies.com/item/0370560

This is a replacement for GM #380382, which takes a #8 screw and fits a .280" square hole.

AMK fasteners also sells this same item.

Nice, that gives me more to go on, thanks!

Guess I will start trying to source them, I was looking at AMK, but it's a sea of stuff.

If someone has a source, I'm all ears, would save me time shopping.

Well, searched that GM number, found a place, ordered some, and like 12 days later, they refunded my money with no explanation.

So ordered some from Fastenal, required a minimum order of 50, so guess I will have some spares!

Fastenal is pretty good for immediate shipping, at least if there's an issue now, I should know in a day or two. Uhg.

I thought you had this all sorted out a while ago and just revisited it.

Here is what a friend did...
Went to Home Depot online. Found SKU 575456 (#6 square) and looked to find if it was available in a store close by. Purchased a pkg of 2. And a package of #10 (yes that's what the sheet metal screw size is #10-16x3/8" long) x 1/2" screws (until he could get to an older auto salvage yard). Total was around $3.50.
Drilled out the center nylon hole using a 5/32" bit. Placed them in the outer square holes and tightened down the nozzle.

I looked at home depot for like an hour, I couldn't find any nylon nuts small enough, all were bigger that the hole. Maybe I didn't look hard enough, dunno.

I have license plate stuff, those are too big to fit in the holes, I tried those. They say they are 1/4 inch, but they seem bigger than that to me, like I tried multiple times. Maybe I did something wrong, but that prompted me to measure the holes.

Anyway, maybe I should have tried harder or something, but I still have a few other things to do, so not really in too big a hurry to get this done. And by mid week next week, I will have a bag of 50, so if anyone needs them, I can provide.

Now I just hope the ones coming work! Thank you HFR, I appreciate your help, you always seem to have valuable info, concise, and complete.
