I went to college (General Motors Institute) with Tim Gillespie. He and I and his house mates formed the core of the car club - the Firebirds - during our time there.

At some point he left GM and last I knew was Chief Engineer for Research and Development at Comp Cams.

I've been running my Chevelle for 41 years this year. I bet he has been running his GTO for as long or longer than that.

These guys are animals!

R4 Eliminations: Troy Coughlin cuts a perfect light and goes .006 over. That's tough to beat.

115 cars in the class to start with.

So, Troy Coughlin bracket races too.
Isn't he a Pro Stock guy ? Big dollar racer racing 9.90 Super Gas.

He got lucky BUT a racer needs that a couple times a race!
To win a race to need to get the right guy at the right time!

Tim Gillespie is still involved in the automotive industry as an engineer. He is still based out of the Dayton, OH area. He has been involved in a great variety of projects with GM mostly, with the Delphi Chassis group in R&D. Always a Pontiac guy, he has kept the torch burning for decades. Also a good guy and supporter of education. He has offered my students and graduates internships and full time jobs upon graduation. We are talking dozens of them over the years. Congratulations Tim, you certainly deserve this win!.

When the Noble, Oklahoma track opened in 1992, drag racing was still growing. The Noble track (Thunder Valley) was like the 3rd track in the country to be an all concrete racing surface. Tim and his (at that time) wife came to Noble for the first divisional race there. She was driving his 68(?) GTO. He was driving the Roadster that he built. It was Pontiac powered (one of the "ninety brackets). Got to meet him at the event. My self and 2-3 other of us Pontiac enthusiast's had some good conversation....Glad to hear he's still working!!!
