Cast crank, cast main caps, stock block, don't do it. Currently doing a 461 pump gas 670HP deal. Forged crank, splayed billet caps, billet rods. I had a cast Eagle crank but tossed the idea. I would not even run those things at 600HP NA. Do not spray it IMO.
Good luck with it. |

Max effort would be billet crank, extensively ported heads and intake, small ring pack, professional prepped carb, custom headers. And a $20-30k bill. Just saying. Doing that and you'll probably get low 9s high 8s on pump gas from 461 stock block

For heads / intake - Dave Wilcox https://headsandmanifolds.wordpress....-head-porting/ Or Dan Barton. Agree with the T2 being a limit comment. Once you have head and flow data, camshaft from http://jonescams.com/ Torque converter from PTC, ATI or Lenny at UCC. With open induction options and high CR (15:1) north of 900HP. Which means $30K.

Best to run it at low 10s-high 9s and have a longer life. |

Built right it could last quite a while i bet, but sooner or later everything brakes you're right.

My son has been running the fluted K&N top since he started racing the '68 Firebird 13 years ago. We heard stories of the lid hurting performance, but the car ran good so we never bothered to experiment. Perfect time to compare was at this year's club dyno days on the chassis dyno. Engine is an older build 468 ci, 670 ported heads, solid flat tappet cam that produced two runs at 392 rear wheel horsepower with the K&N top. Swapped nothing except the top to a Moroso lid and we saw 458 HP on the next two runs. Swapped back to the fluted top and the last run fell back to the 390's. That's 66 horsepower loss with the fluted top. Before that we definitely didn't believe the negative hype on the fluted top, but we were made believers that day. I still don't understand how such a great idea sucks so bad.
