Default 66 set up

My engine builder has a tri power set up sitting on the floor and keeps trying to peddle it to me. His says it's an all original 66 unrestored set up. First I have 67 and my quadajet works just fine. I will take some pictures of it and post them. What would be a reasonable price to pay for this so I could get my money back ?

Thanks, Pat

Get your money back? Who just gets their money back? Pictures needed as there are many variables as well as many people thinking they have one thing when they really have another.

Value to purchase is "X" plus shipping cost to anywhere in U.S. by UPS. (And that don't include any profit margin.)

Looking forward to seeing the pictures, numbers, etc.

Make sure to check that throttle plate shafts (especially center carb) aren't stuck or "loose" and the throttle plates and bores aren't rusty.

Good luck!

I don't know...if someone is trying to push something that I don't really need or want, the price is going to be pretty low. That way, either you get a deal or he quits bothering you about it. Either way, you win!

I paid $15 for a perfectly good 1966 Tri-Power intake, back in the 1970s.
I paid 66 TIMES that amount for a Barry Grant 6-Shooter Intake that was capable of fitting Holley carbs on it. The Point Being, It Depends.

If you can Buy It for $100 and Sell it for $200 you doubled your money and the other guy you sell it to will get a break on the intake vs the "*bay prices".

I have paid $15 apiece for carbs that were correct but needed parts and paid more for NOS parts people had on the shelf. It really depends on what the shop guy wants for the stuff. Get that number first and report back and people will help you.

Looks like a nice original set up in need of the correct fuel lines, air cleaners and a rebuild. I would say anywhere under $1,000 would be a good deal. Be careful that the intake isn't cracked between the center carb bores.

Default 66 tripower

More info on the 66 pictured.

The center carb is not original. You can tell because of the blocked vacuum port on passenger side. In addition, the choke rod is off a regular 2 bbl car.

There are lots of variables, beside checking to make sure the manifold is not cracked.

I would not pay 1000. for this setup.

I can't see a reason to buy it if you are just trying to get your money back. Cut out the middleman and just keep the money in your pocket.
Now, if on the other hand, you're looking to make a profit on it....$400~$500.

There are some pictures of one of my original '66 set ups for reference on a center carb and choke rod. There are deals out there on them still. I gave $500 for that set up several years ago needing cleaned and restored. I would estimate that I have around $800 in the set up after buying kits, lines, air cleaners and some of the linkage.

After second look it does appear that center carb and choke rod is not correct. However, it would probably be close enough to work if someone wanted to run the set up you are looking at. That does hurt the re-sale value some though. Start out low and work your way up if you want to buy it. I would bet that it would sell somewhere south of $1,000 if you decided to re-sell. If it were me, I would start out around $500. From there I would go up if the intake wasn't cracked.

The problem is that too many people only see dollar signs when three little letters are attached..... G......T.....O

The think they have their retirement in hand whether its a part or the whole car. It does not work that way.
