The aftermarket ones are a peel and stick. I recently found 2 NOS ones on ebay for my '73. They were advertised as sail panel emblems but had the correct pin locations for my fenders.

GM actually produced these in peal and stick in the 80's as replacement parts. There are NOS ones floating around .

From what I've seen the aftermarket ones have a stud for mounting on the fender if u wanted to use on the sail panel they tell to remove the stud and use adhesive tape

another big difference from the original emblems & even the gm replacements in the 80's is that the originals had some "topography" in the metal of the emblem with raised lines & grooves, then was painted & filled with a thick clear epoxy type material. the gm peel & stick replacements & repro's were more of a printed style in the colored area of the bird.
not sure what the reproductions are like since i had some GM peel & sticks i used but i have a bunch of the original style where the thick clear releases & falls out leaving the chrome metal with the lines. kind of like whats pictured here, original emblem on the left & the repro or even the GM peel & stick looks like whats on the right. http://www.78ta.com/Pages/nos.htm |

/\ I believe that change over was for 1977, but I could be wrong.
I had collected examples of both styles when I had my brother's '73 Formula, but when I gave it back, I gave him those parts too.
