Have used the power master 9510, no complaints.
Using GPE on other car, good people and quick turnaround if you need a rebuild.

Default Starter

I've had the same mini starter on the car for about 10 years, Had it rebuilt a few times, just put a solenoid on it.
When I hit the starter button just clicks, after I hit it a few times it will start the car.
Any ideas??

I only use IMI starters on my own car, and my customers cars. Great product and price.

I have had a Summit mini starter for years, never a hint of trouble.
Thing is, most all of these mini starters are copies, as most things in the automotive world are, German origin. The Bosh starter which all the Japanese companies, Denso and the rest copied, then China copied it.
That original Bosh starter the solenoid is the weak link as all the copied versions, the Pontiac mini starters. My Tundra has a copied Bosh starter and the solenoid went out. So I replaced it.
The Summit/Bosh mini starter on my GTO has never given me a problem because I have always ran a Ford solenoid with jumper wire so it takes all the electrical hit first. Its the only way to go. Cheap, easy to change and if it ever gives me a problem I can jump start it with a screwdriver at the track. All the mini starter solenoid really needs to do is kick the starter drive out into the ring gear as the motor has already started spinning and the Ford solenoid got it going and took the hit.
You used to be able to get contact kits for the bosh style solenoids but now hard to get and they are crimped anyway so you can not even take them apart to service if you wanted too.
Summit mini+ Ford solenoid will work for 95% of us unless you need a nose support.

For competition engines I've used Tilton starters. Somewhat expensive, but powerful- up to 2.2 KW.

What compression is everyone running. That'll make a difference. Easy to spin 9:1 over vs 16:1

Ive used both Powermaster 9510, 9610 and the summit rebox "whatever" version of one of them. Only problem I had was a massive kickback on a 14:1 engine that destroyed one severely. Wasn't the starter's fault, there was an idiot between the steering wheel and the seat, looked just like me. Called PM about getting some parts. They said to just Box it up and send it in. There in the box was the main part of the starter, and in a separate bag, all of the exploded nose parts. I got a call a few days later, saying that it was some of the best destruction they'd ever seen it was pretty hilarious. They fixed me up fairly inexpensively and it was back within a few days. Like a lot of aftermarket companies, they will really take good care of you if you just reach out to them!

12.5 to 1 with this motor. 14 to 1 with my previous one.

12.5:1 CR. To me, its both product and support that make my decision. IMI hands down. I bought one way back in 07. Shimmed is wrong and killed a gear. Called IMI on a Friday. Was at track on Saturday, and they shipped it overnight to a local address I gave them near the track. Was racing Saturday morning. And they sent more than a gear...all internals for replacing what they thought might be a bent shaft. Still have that starter in the car. I'll never forget their commitment to me.

I installed an IMI. It fixed my hot start problems, and was still running fine after five years.

I bought a Summit brand a couple of years ago. Car is still a project, and the starter is not mounted... I saw some mentions in the past that the unsupported nose of the mini-starter style is a problem Has anyone noticed that?
