'69 Bird, locking Steering Column Help
'69 Firebird, manual trans car, bought as a roller and missing a LOT of pieces.
Got my steering column completely rebuilt, new ignition key and cylinder. Installed it, works great, looks great, wiring is correct. Without all the lockout mechanisms (that didn't come with the car) my ignition key will not return to the OFF position, nor come out of the key switch. For all you guys that abandoned all this levers and rods, can I just tie the bar at the end of the column up so My key will come out?? THANKS, Hunter

The collar will probably need rotated to where the key will come out.
It could stay there, but vibration might make it rotate from there.

On my old 69 Firebird I wired the Collar to that position by securing the lever on the column under the hood. But it could also be a good theft deterrent to manually rotate it so the car cant be driven my just manually turning the collar by hand.
