Default Control Arm Serrated Washer

I need one serrated washer for the upper control arm shaft as pictured below. The inner hole diameter is 5/8".

Also, did the 1972 F-Body's have the plastic protective cover over the rag joint? My 1973 TA has the cover, but my 1972 Formula does not.

Thanks for any help.

Bob,

To your second question, the plastic cover over the rag joint started in 73. When are you loading into MCACN? We need to grab a beer!

I concur. The plastic cover was a fix that came as the result of several lawsuits after a piece of gravel, debris, etc., got stuck between the joint and the frame rail and locked some stearing columns up.

Bob, I am heading out on Wednesday. Looks like the Vintage Certification class moves in on Thursday. See you there!

Good luck Steve. Make sure your AAA membership is current.

I'm still trying to figure out my travel plans. This is my kids 16th birthday weekend and my wife and her are coming along for a Michigan Avenue weekend. Doubt she can skip school for two days, so I'm either going to need to beg for a Friday arrival or call Reliable....

Thanks for nailing down the cover question, still need one serrated washer.

They will let you move in on Friday, it's just a lot more crowded so it takes longer. Of course, Reliable would be the easy, and luxurious option! Look forward to seeing you!

It was my son's 16th birthday last weekend. He wanted a kitten like his sister got she she turned 16. She was quite funny years ago when she said she'd save us a bunch of money by not having a sweet sixteen party if we'd only get her a kitten. We took her up on the offer and found one for $15.
Of course my son picks out this bedraggled grey creature that immediately required all sorts of medications and probably wound up costing us a couple hundred bucks already. But he already trained it to play Xbox with him so we can't exactly return it now.

The show date stinks since my son wanted to go with me but the wife won't let him miss four days of school. It's a shame the show wasn't this week (or the NJ teachers convention wasn't next week) because he has four days off this week).

So it turns out my control arm cross shafts are aftermarket replacements. In other words, I don't need a serrated washer, I need two correct crosshsafts. I believe that '70 to '79 were the same.

BTW - This is for the Black Car.

Sorry about the cross shafts, Bob. Yeah, the second owner back in the 1980's who "restored" the car used everything incorrect that he could find in the Classic Industries catalog. If it was wrong, he bought it and replaced the original part with it. Ugh!

HAHA. Actually I have another month left before I have to renew. But since AAA charges you an extra hundred bucks for the family renewal versus just getting a new membership under the wife's name, I resort to swapping names each year. It is so stupid how they punish you for being a return customer.

Oh, and I am borrowing my buddy's Dodge Cummins diesel, again.

Bob, I called your non-work phone and left you a message. Sounds like you need two of these kits. There appears to be some available NOS. I'm trying now to get a price check. Place is located in WA, and I have dealt with them before.

The kits come with the bushings, serrated washers, conical washers and correct nuts. I left the part number of the kits on your phone, but call me if you want more info.

Chad

/\ /\ Wow!
What's with your ability to come up with all this sweet NOS stuff!!?!?

So bob, I guess your FB post was worth it - in that it alerted you to them being aftermarket (I didn't know this, then again, I haven't yet got to redoing everything on my car.

I have never seen the serrated washer installed from the factory. I've only seen them on replacement control arm pivot shafts.

I'd agree with that. I can only imagine it was a design change to try to help keep the bushing rubber from sliding inwards.

Ya, I know what you mean. Weird, huh? And a lot of the stuff comes from your neck of the woods, too.

GM changed these shafts sometime after 1970 production was over to an offset style.
I cant recall when.. but I do remember comparing a 77 to a 70 at the dealership.

Ya, I've bought NOS upper control arms that had the offset shafts installed in them. Easy enough to yank them out and install the correct straight shafts for the earlier cars. I've even had good luck selling off just the offset shafts.

Anyone have a side by side of the different shafts?
