My 1974 Ventura/GTO build
Hi Im Micah and its nice to see many people with talent and other really nice pics and progress on these old pontiacs. I first bought this 74 Ventura as my first car when I was 16 and its been a few different directions as far as a project goes. This time I am going with a turbo. Its been years in the making as far as saving up parts and yes I have some ancient ones being used but a couple sayings ring in my head. "Run whatcha brung" and "if it aint broke, don't fix it." Im doing both with this build and I am learning more each time I pick up the TIG torch. Heres a few pics of it so far

Hey Micah. Glad to see you came over to this forum. I think there will be a lot of people interested in and watching your build. So far it is looking really good.

Very nice, can you post pics. Of the exhaust sides. Are you fabbing the whole system?

Thanks mark! And yes I'm fabbing the whole thing based around a stock 389 short block with ARP rod bolts, high pressure oil pump, small cam, 6x heads, stock manifolds, modified performer rpm intake, CSU holley 850 blow through carb, among other not so exotic pieces like tv7101 and the idea in 2014 not going fuel injection lol

Here's a look at the bottom side and a look at my fiberglassed stock dash with three gauge spots added in the center for 2-1/16" autometers. I do a bit of carbon fiber work as well and I could easily overlay the dash but I really want to have a micro suede covered dash with a nice double reinforced stitch throughout it so I'm going back and forth

Neat project.
When you get to test mode I have an Offy 360 hi rise single 4 that might work better than dual plane. if you want to try it get in touch Bruce |

Thanks Bruce. I know what I have isnt optimal and I sure know about needing a different intake such as a taller single plane piece. I milled some of the divider out of this one after hearing it makes it work a little better

The Offy has a deep plenum and the runners are short, only a few inches from head to plenum. Certainly more plenum area than rpm minus divider, t2, t1, hsd, maybe victor too, and at equal depth it might work better than cut divider rpm. Only way to know is testing.
If it works for you I'll let it go for cheap... Im going EFI and likely to fab my own intake from a dual quad or tunnel ram. |

Looks like some great Fabrication Skills there Micah! (and I deal with good fabricators every day). Just saying.
Tom V. Glad to help on your deal as looks like a great project. The wastegated discharge out the fender gives the big HP look and still allows the large flow out the normal exhaust system.

Dude, I love it. My first car was a 73 Ventura Sprint which I still have. It's been replaced with a 72 that is being worked due to cost but I'm an X body dude too. Your car project is very cool.
You should talk to a guy I know in eastern Indiana that has built a twin turbo 74 GTO recently as well. You two just might have some info to share. Good luck with the build! |

Rob, I may not have "technically ran a 9" yet but my junk still went faster than you on my only full pass!
I do not have a build thread on my 74, I meant to start one but finished it before I started a thread. I have a posted a few pictures of it in the "Running or sitting on jack stands " thread. The fab work looks awesome so far! Crank the boost up and show these NA guys whats up. Post up more details on your build (turbo, blow thru?) |
