Hardtop or Coupe - 68 - taillights in the bumper and small front turn signals, but most importantly no key in my steering column.

I agree, the rear bumper with tail lights in them are way cool on the 68's!

Interesting perspective on the vent windows. Never thought about that at all with the verts.
I like the vent windows, & I think because they have so much chrome/stainless around the front glass on the convertibles, they do blend in pretty well, but I never thought about it like that.

I took it that he does't mind the windows on the 68, but doesn't care for how they look on the 68 ragtops with the top down. prefers the look of the 69's with the top dropped?

After all this discussion, the 1968 GTO & LeMans Hard Tops & Convertibles still get my goat.

When I ordered my 69 H-O LeMans I didn't realize they didn't come with vent wings. At the time( after I realized this) I thought, just like I thought about the 68 vs 69's dash that I was sort of being cheated or de-contented. What I didn't realize was for a time ( early production 69's ) if you wanted, or screamed loud enough etc. you could get vent wings. When I restored my 69 H-O in 91-92 I realized just how easy that would have been to convert back because the 68-69 inner/outer door skins are the same and the holes for mounting the window glass channel and the vent wing assy. hardware all fits.
Funny, I liked the 69 rear bumper better than the 68, but I liked the 68's front bumper with it's smaller center ram or snout than the 69's. The 69's front bumper center snout was so big they had to mount the front bumper license plate on the rt. side of the valance instead of the 68's which is rt. in the middle and symmetrical. Of course GTO's didn't have that problem.

Yes, I like the 68's, but when the top is down on a convertible, the wing windows with the windshield looks a little funky to me and the 69 convert with the top down is styled better without the wing windows.

I like the 1969 more than the '68, convertible or hardtop style. I've not owned either, but worked on both years.

When it comes to the GTO, 68 and 69 are both so cool, its hard to pick a fav...but on the Lemans, the 68 is my choice by far. I like the tail lights in the bumper, and that front end is SO good looking on the 68's, and the 69's had the massive battering ram snout which I do not like. I really like wing windows also, I just like em. The interior, 68's look more old school, while the 69's had more of a modern look...I like them both. 68 and 69 was a AWESOME year for all Musclecars...cool stuff from every manufacturer. My dad told me when the 1968 Pontiacs came out, there was many people at the dealership checking them out. He said there was people drooling over a Verdoro green GTO, and he thought it was the nicest looking car he had ever seen.

Well put, I'm at home with both 68 and 69. It was an interesting turning point design wise. The interior of the 68 still holding on to the earlier cars a bit and 69 having a nod at the new modern style that held on for many years. Hindsight is always 20/20.

Ah yes the summer of love.

Cruisin the road at dusk in a 68 hideaway Goat with just the park lights on..., sinister.

Deluxe wheel in hand, vent windows open, keys swingin from the dash.

A comfortable pad, bit of old school steel and a three pod cluster wrapped in wood grain.

Arrowhead marker light, nose emblem and steering wheel button.

Iconic 6.5 Litre emblem adorning the fender.

The hideaway front end, rear bumper and tail lights are a work of art.

Many of these things can not be found on the 69.

Don't get me wrong, there are many things I like about 69's too... um, er a... well, you can use 69 parts to fix 68's.

That's right I read the whole thread you buncha cannibals, drop the tools an step away from the car!

All kidding aside, the 69 is the next best thing to a 68.

I don’t know exactly what it is but something about these pics taken in 68-69 make me realize how different those GTO’s looked compared to all other cars. They were so ahead of their time.

That IS a beauty. Can't tell if it's Alpine or Turquoise. I think Alpine.

Do you think its a picture of a picture? lots of odd reflections.

Would be so cool to go back in time to that year & walk around the sales lots & inspect them closely. So cool.

interesting how the valance, bumper & fender come together on the right corner.
Just confirms how these didn't always fit perfect originally.

We have old pics of my fathers 69 GTO when he bought it new. Same deal. Front bumper was never perfect, just the way a lot of these cars were. Some day I'll scan the old glossys and get them on the computer.
