A tuxedo 72, especially on a white car, and with 4 speed, is an out of the norm 72 TA and beautiful IMO. Did that give it an edge in pricing versus a standard black interior, automatic, say? Just pointing that out as maybe a reason for high end. Nice car! Regardless, it is a very good sign for 70-73's in general.

but nearly $100k for the buyer?
Granted 1972's are rarer than 1971's, but with an apples to apples comparison, I'd prefer a '71 all day long, on any day of the week... and I'm pretty sure no '71 has come even close to this... which is the point.

I will also seem to discredit my post a bit by readily admiting that I'd rather a '70 4spd TA over a '71/'72 4spd TA... granted the '72 has the M22, I'd still rather a '70...

I disagree . I did work at a Pontiac dealership, If you have a hard time believing what I have said, look up all 3 versions in your parts manual.
It only makes sense that GM would use up current stock on items like this with no mandate till Jan 1 of 1972 .
PS "worked at ALL Pontiac dealerships" < interesting sarcasm...

Bruce, I see what you're saying.

You personally own a pre November 72 Bird with a 71 valance light harness and metal valance.

Have you shared pictures of that car? Or any other pre Nov F body?

I just haven't seen it before. But, if so there's proof...

Why are the harnesses different? I have had clear 71 and orange 72/73 lenses and they had same light bayonet thing and were interchangeable. FYI, my 72 was a plastic valence, orange light car. Valance that is on now is steel with evidence of being added later (as commonly found).

Unlike like the lamp in socket that twist into plastic lights. The 70-71 have a metal backing with lamp twist not metal piece. Then the harness plugs into the backside of metal.

I do have pics of original cars I have owned with the early ( 71) harness and metal valance. , but I will have to go through boxes of negatives as I lost a hard drive 2 years ago with a lot of 1972 content. BUT, I will drop this pic of a original Sept car with Metal Valance, and look for pics of one of steves cars I took in his barn many years ago, I think its a column shift car too.

I love that picture. Especially, since it's a Sundance Orange car HO car...

Not sure how you know it's a Sept car? I always thought it was a pre production promotional picture?

Maybe they were still getting the notches in the endura to mate with the plastic valance that held up the production for the photo?

Or as you stated getting the old stock used up before becoming over the counter stock..

BTW: I have a pre production picture of a 71 GT-37 without hood pins and sport mirrors.

None the less...back to topic on this thread.

That'd certainly be a world record for a White car if the bid is real, which I doubt if Dana Mecum actually owns the car, as has been mentioned.

Ahh, I didn't realize he owned it. You're right, I'd be skeptical too.

There are a handful of 70-72's on the BJ roster this year.

These sell today. Since it's Thursday and not the hottest night of action these might sell for more reasonable prices, or at least make a fair comparison.

Nothing on Friday but this one goes off on Saturday evening
Might cause a bidding frenzy since this is the last one of the lot and on a Saturday night. So price may not be reflective.

Ooops the first one from yesterday is a 70 TA RAIII

https://www.barrett-jackson.com/Even...RANS-AM-224775

sold for $45,100 Maybe light on the price, maybe not. Seems like a decent reflection for comparison.

The second one yesterday I listed was a 72 455HO TA and it went for $59,400. Again seems like a decent representation with a realistic price.

I'm thinking the last one left on the roster for Saturday night prime time may go higher, since there are no other 70-72 TA's to compete with it, so it may turn into a bidding frenzy, or not.

I didn't check all the auctions but there are literally 5-6 auctions last week and this week going on in and around the Scottsdale area alone. The Silver Auctions, Russo and Steele, BJ, etc... January is a busy month. Should be more examples than just what I listed above if anyone is looking for a good solid comparison along with the Mecum stuff. Mecum will be here in March.
