Default Wheel arch moulding fitment

Is there a trick to getting a better fit on the rear wheel opening trims? I have factory trims and factory quarterpanels. But it is hard to get the middle top tight to the body ! I have a noticeable gap. When I force the moulding tight, I have buckling of the flat part, like it needs shrinking. I am wondering if bending the wheel lip up or down will help? Or just cut a tiny pie section out of the trim?
